It makes me sad Dark Souls II will use region servers, because just like now, Demon's Souls' Asian server has many people playing it; when no one plays Dark Souls, we will still be able to play with the hardcore guys in Japan.

How "alive" is Demon's Online?
Just that. Nostalgia got me. I think I may play it again. But I would like to be invaded, and summon guys, and ultimately invade others, but I want to know if I will be able to do all these things ; or the online is pretty much dead.

You mean you won't be buying DkS II or you won't be buying Demon's Souls lol? It's not very important from a singleplayer POV. But in a Multiplayer POV, the game's online population may suffer greatly once the game becomes very old.
It's like those nights you can't fight anyone but japanese players, if DkS was regional, then you wouldn't be able to fight anyone at all.
PS: Keep in mind region servers doesn't exactly means "region" in the common use. It's just US Server, EU Server, Asian Server. That's how it was in Demon's; though because Dark Souls II will have a bigger budget and production/support, maybe they expand and make more servers, or make the servers bigger.

DkS 2.
But yea I will think more about this.
On Dota 2 you can actually choose which Servers you want to join to search matches. Thats the first time I've seen this mechanic and I love it. You can switch to servers close to you if you suffer too much lag and you can play with a friend from the other side of the world as well

Re: How "alive" is Demon's Online?
Demon's was fragmented because of publishers being different for each version. So regional servers don't necessarily mean we will be restricted. Maybe so but not a definite.

It was confirmed that it will have servers, but it's true that no one said we won't be able to pick which one we use.

Re: How "alive" is Demon's Online?
Just to stay off topic.... I hope DkS2 doesn't have regional servers. I like playing with folks the world over and in my experience DS dedicated servers have the same amt of failed sessions as DkS.
OT... Seems fairly active right now. Sl17 & sl60. Sl17 just started low level invading in the areas i have cleared and the sl60 invades and co-ops in areas I never expected nor was getting any action a couple weeks ago. White phantoms all over. Kinda makes me wish I pushed on in the game back when it was first released instead of putting it on the shelf and picking up DkS.
The only thing I don- t like on the invade/ co- op part of DS is that you have to suicide after each successful boss fight or host kill.

Re: How "alive" is Demon's Online?
Depends what region you'll be playing in.
Japan and Asia servers are still pretty busy.
America is kinda dead.
EU is dead.
But in reality you are only going to find people at low soul level or 120.

I think a decent indication would be whether or not you get summoned/get a summon for Old Monk. Not sure as I haven't gotten there yet with my newest char.

We tried resurrecting it with an uber complex clan war idea that died instantly. (by me, none the less.)

I've been invading at low and mid-level, getting a decent number of folks. Some of them had phantoms, even. SL 120 PvP was alive and well last time I checked, but that was at least a month ago.
NA.

I see a lot of white phantoms standing around in shrine of storms. Is this a PVP spot? If so, how is PVP being accomplished, invasion? Or with the red eye stone?

Yes, the area around the first bonfire is the hotspot for most players (or at least it was). Level 120, host, black or red stone should get you some action there. Fightclub/tourney hosts also summons blue phantoms in ds, since you can only have one black phantom in the world at a time.Odinbear wrote:I see a lot of white phantoms standing around in shrine of storms. I started a new knight last night, and summoned 6 different people and even got invaded. It was actually busier than I remember the last time I checked in -- lots of bloodstains and ghosts running around. Very fun!

Re: How "alive" is Demon's Online?
My lady is playing it right now. She just cleared 5-3 and only has 4-2+3 and 1-3+4 left. She's having troubles in 4-2 and wants to leave 1-3 for last.
She tried to get summoned and nothing. Never saw a single summon sign either.
On other hand, she got summoned for Old Monk and won. It was her first DeS PvP too. Then someone invaded her in 4-2 with full PvP gear and slaughtered her. Even had balls to send hatemail to her.
Her reaction was: "He must've been waiting to kill a new and clueless players for how long? Two years? No wonder he's so happy he won."
Then she got a player for Old Monk, but it went rather well as the player seemed pretty new to the game himself.
I've tried it myself a little bit and haven't found a single player. This is on EU servers, just to make it clear.

Re: How "alive" is Demon's Online?
Yeah, I'm on NA and it still seemed to be humming, I didn't expect to see anything. Instead I saw multiple summon signs in 1-2/1-3 and 4-1, among others, and this at fairly low level. The guy who invaded me did seem almost as surprised as I was, and we had a hilarious battle between his fists and my catalyst before he got bored and pwned me. I only tried DeS online after I got addicted to Dark Souls, and the no poise thing still messes me up .

Befowler, it seems like DeS on PSN breathed new life into the DeS servers.
Sentiel, I haven't played in a bit but last I played it wasn't really that lively save for ghosts.

Re: How "alive" is Demon's Online?
You most likely will not get any invasions/invaded. Not sure though since it was put on PSN recently, and i haven't played it for about 3-4months. Your best bet for PvP is to go to 4-1 with a SL100-125 build and hope you run into someone, people do still hold fight clubs that usually have 4-6 people on the NA version.

Re: How "alive" is Demon's Online?
I had loads of fights last Friday evening on the EU servers in 4-1.
Invade or put down a blue sign. I found invading worked better. There was a lot of guys hosting. (No one answered my messages though whcih was weird. I sent a smiley face after a double KO, nothing; remarked on the length of a mirror-match fight with someone else, nothing; enquired about regular PvP meets with another, nothing lol. It's usually the opposite in DeS. I've made friends through this game!
I actually won a lot of fights so I don't think they were DeS vets... I think most of them are actually DkS players who have heard that 4-1 is the place to go for PvP. The reason I say that is because a) I won many fights and b) A lot of guys didn't seem to aware of the 'hyper armour' of certain weapons and kept getting nailed by them.
I've stumbled across a vets fight club before and everyone toyed with me. It was embarrassing lol
