    Backstabbing is a necessity, they just made it wrong in Dark Souls.

    i still dont know why they didn't patch the backstab glitch in dark souls.

    You can wear a piece of Thorn armor, and if you see they are going for a backstab you can roll into them and the 2 damage they take will cancel out your damage.

    No. Most people already two-hand their weapon for the strength and/or damage boost already, as dodging is much more effective than blocking. Adding an additional bonus to that style will only serve to drive diverse gameplay even more into hiding.

    They need to do these things to fix most of the complaints:

    1. If you attempt to roll BS by rolling face first directly into a heavily armored knight... you bounce off and find yourself face down/up in the dirt.

    2. If you attempt to just "walk through" someone when they attack using high poise so you can 180 tern backstab... you find that you cannot just walk through someone! Only Shadow Cat from the X-men can do that.

    3. Shield on your back = Defense of some kind from BS.

    4. You only get the BackStab when you attack the opponent in the back.


    Easy as that =P

    It's a good way of fitting in some damage when you may be a bit weaker than your opponent.

    But, like everyone else said, it's a necessity, it just came out wrong.

    backstagbs aren't that necessary as some of you say. why is that mechanic so important for you! it's absolutely broken in dks. fights without bs are much more interesting than with. don't know why every player needs this crappy mechanic. also in pve it's just to easy to do it, in dks and des.
    hope they completely change this in dks2.

    way to fix. all dex based weapons that where made for backstabbing get a massive crit. str weapons get a free attack in, at higher levels this is exactly as devastating as it should be.

    *Buzzer sounds*WROOOOOOOOONG! It makes total sense to me, I mean...you have to be CLOSE for it to work, so its not liek you're parrying the big mass of the thing and there's less to work on, you're at the handle, where it's easiest. Up close and personal, it would be logical to parry ANY weapon.

    have you ever seen someone in a movie who uses a huge/great weapon. they are slow but can smash a shield into at least 2 pieces, especially something small like the target shield. the one who wields a huge or great weapon has to be very strong, so he/she should be able to smash your tiny shield with bare fists. to be honest, it's totally easy to parry a weapon in dks, even if you risk a hit by getting close to your enemie and great weapon users have enough disadvantages in dks pvp.

    I'll just repeat my suggestions for backstabbing:

    In PvE:


    - Enemy mobs will be able to dodge your backstab attempts if they are not caught in an attack animation or for other reasons that would be suitable for balance.
    - Mobs will not backstab dodge if they are not locked-on to you.

    In PvP:

    - When a player attempts a backstab: The defending player can press the dodge button moments before hit to avoid the attack (This works like a quick-time, you only get 1 input)
    - If the player dodges a backstab with precision (probably tighter frames than a parry): The defending player will perform a backstab parry and place the offending player on a pre-riposte animation.
    - Players cannot attempt backstabs if they were caught during recovery frames.

    What this does

    Slower Weapons are easier to backstab dodge because their backstab is slower, hence making them highly undesirable. In addition, to a general nerf to all backstabs.

    when talking about shield I believe dreaded cone said this in a stream along the lines of "its a bit ridiculous that you can set up parry a zweihander with a shield that fits on the end of your fist." I tend to agree with that, something should be done about guard breaking and how stamina works. How to actually fix it I have no idea.

    On a different note backstabs are needed. I mean how else do you effectively punish someone who is just sitting there spamming WoTG, dark bead, GC, ect... Now things like poise bsing are just stupid, but I really think that that is really more of an issue with poise than with bs.

    Are we talking about Backstabs here or Lagstabs? Remember that DS2's online play will be dedicated, so no more huge lag spikes or, in this case, lagstabs. Most of the time, that is.

    You'll get builds with a total disregard for any sort of caution or awareness like this http://mmdks.com/224x

    You may not enjoy it, but fighting a persistent backstab fisher is something that will inevitably hone your strategies against backstabs.
    When you remove the danger of a backstab from a fight, you lose a lot of the tension that is dark souls pvp.

    However, the shield idea could work, albiet if it was expanded upon.

    Backstabs are a part of the souls series. A mechanic that doesn't need to be removed or changed. With the exception of decreasing the hitbox back to the same size as it was in Demon's Souls. That, and the fact that DkS2 is going back to dedicated servers will get rid of the worst of the lag associated with the backstab in this current iteration. Thank goodness, no more P2P.

    Hahaha no. They need to be changed. They make pve too easy and arguably make pvp less enjoyable the way they are now. Plus they're a boring mechanic in my opinion.
