This is such a good thread, It should never creep back into the realm of the dead.
Lately I have seen a few newer players intrigued by Jolly COOP but not knowing where to look for direction...

ps. sorry for the necro, just a good relevant thread for newbies to always see

Jolly coop is, imho, the real heart and soul of Dark Souls, and I encourage folks to make dedicated builds to really enjoy it. Keeping a host alive requires a fairly different set of skills and builds than pure PvE or pure PvP, plus it's often more of a challenge than just blasting random people in the face with your zweihander. For example, you have to think of ways to keep your host from getting BS'd, or one shot by a glass cannon mage, and so forth. And most importantly you can wear Solaire's set with no irony whatsoever.

Keeping the host alive lead to a majority of my deaths, but they were jolly deaths. I've taken quite a few Super Ornstein lightning stabsplodes for my unaware hosts.

I like the teamwork component, and of course just the funny stuff folks do to get themselves killed if I'm not watching them carefully. I actually think a number of weapons and spells beyond the obvious Princess Guard ones were specifically designed with coop in mind. My favorites are vow of silence and force, both of which are great for keeping hosts from getting blasted with spells or backstabbed.

    Hi, all,

Like many of you here, I am drawn to the SunBros covenant, and really enjoy helping people out. I've had some phenomenal experience summoning Sun Brothers to help, and the first time I saw someone hurl a lightning spear at the Taurus Demon, I knew I had to have that!

The other day I summoned a SunBro to help my new toon in the Burg. Went to fight Havel. I ran down to aggro him and ran back up, thinking to fight him at the top to make it easier to get my stuff back if I died. The SunBro ran past me, and before I realized it, had finished off Havel down below. I was really grateful, so I dropped a Humanity (just started the game, so I didn't have much else at that point). We went to fight the Taurus Demon, and after the fight was over, I notice a bundle on the ground, and it was 2 humanities. That really struck me - totally classy.

I've just started a toon that is specifically geared to the SunBros, a faith build. I was going to keep her for coop in the lower levels. Right now she's at level 11, with 20 faith, enough attunement for 2 slots, and enough dexterity to wield Astora's Straight Sword. I'd like to get at least 1 more attunement slot (thinking heal, lightning spear, and a pyromancy). What's the max level I could take her to to still get summoned in the burg? The online guides say 5-10, but that seems low, and I would like to also be able to help out with the gargoyles and at least the Capra (who I have a special hate for).

Also, curiosity question... I got summoned a few times in the burg, and had the host BC me early (just before or just after the black knight. I wasn't doing that badly (I've gotten in funks where the stupid great axe guys killed me and I want to msg the host to apologize for my own incompetence, but not the times I got BCed). I'm not glitching, so I don't have super powerful stuff yet, but I can still one shot the soldiers. Why would they kick me out?

    Totally hooked!

Ah, the jolly sun bro covenant, I do enjoy being a source of the sun and a beacon of hope. I always wear the biggest and heavy of gear so seeing me is rather easy, thus making me a great target for those unlucky enough to invade the home of my summoner. Where I usually tell them to hide or flank. Always fun to have some jolly co-operation, reason I got hooked on it.

Brothers! I find myself summoned by low level players wearing the Iron and Sun set quite often. It usually turns out that they murdered Solaire to acquire it. What would be the right thing to do in this situation? Help them, as is my duty as a Warrior of the Sun, or to leave to their fates those who would renounce the Sun in favour of material gains?

Help them for now, since they summoned you. But if you think they might be a Dark Wraith in disguise leave them be!

By the way, I'd love to see this thread revived, or perhaps remade.

You obviously help them. They killed him to end his suffering, since roaming around while hollow is a terrible fate. They took his belongings for safe keeping, and to keep his memory alive. Then they wore it to be closer to him and to hopefully live up to his legacy.

Had they been heroes capable of of such feats, that might indeed have been the case. However, they are not. They are people who summon me to their side to defeat the vile Capra Demon, not people who have conquered the evils of Lost Izalith. Some even openly admit having slain our brother in sunlight when confronted about it!

If you're 1-shotting stuff they might think you're using op gear, whether glitched or not. It is possible to 1-shot lots of enemies there if you 2-hand a +0 weapon, but maybe they don't know that.

Or maybe they just wanted company/protection clearing the level for PvP.

    Solaire rocks in Anor Londo!

I summoned a SunBro mage to help with the terrible duo. We cleared out the stone guardians and the archer. I then went to summon Solaire, cause I love the guy and ask his help anytime I can, and I was invaded by a DW.

As I led my team up the stairs to the fog gate the DW appeared from behind a pillar and attacked me. I simply went defensive and rolled clear, letting my SunBro escort deal with the invader. Solaire was fierce! Two handing his sword, he hammered the DW's shield until he staggered. The DW managed to get clear of Solaire only to tangle with the SunBro mage. While they fought, Solaire got tired of chasing them about and began hurling lighting at the poor DW till he died. Solaire was so angered by the invasion he pumped two extra lighting bolts into the corpse as it faded away.

We went on to fight the twin bosses. The SunBro mage had a little extra surprise before we started though. He buffed both myself and Solaire with the trident dance. You haven't seen anything until you witness a buffed Solaire.

I recently made a character dedicated exclusively to jolly co-operation up to the Iron Golem. He is decked out in Elite Knight Gear, switching between the three Crest shields depending on the situation. He is wielding a +5 Astora's Straight Sword. I am also using my alternate GFWL account: Knight Attalus, to better suit my role as a sunbro.

The other day, I was summoned in the Depths by a guy I had helped defeat the Gargoyles and the Capra Demon. Doubt he actually needed my help, as he seemed to know what he was doing.

Imagine my shock when I realized that we had forgotten all about the Channeller on the balcony overlooking the Gaping Dragon room . Praise the Sun(bros)! - Page 4 2707236321

The other phantom he summoned was oneshotted by buffed Gaping. Poor guy. We won in the end though.

One thing I've taken to doing with my Anor Londo coop runs is killing the titanite demon from up on the balcony with a crossbow (tends to be faster than a bow). While this is not a new tactic, it can be absolutely hilarious if we then get invaded and the DW sprints into that room to use the demon against us. Haha, whoops! You can actually see them go "oh sh--" when they realize they're cornered. It happens surprisingly often because most of them assume the demon will still be alive if the host hasn't otherwise cleared the level that far.

I must say, that if you do Praise the Sun, you should be doing so with the power of sunlight anyways.

No matter if it is the Healing Sunlight, or the Spears of the Sun... give my arm the power of the Sun, and I shall show them true faith in not light, but energy.

Fight me. I shall show you the power of a Gravelord with an Orange Aura.

Fight with me. I shall show you the power of a Guardian with an Orange Wave.

Fight for me. I shall show you the power of a Warrior with a large lunge.

Either way, my arm shall always be lit with energy.

I sometimes wonder how the Sunbros will do if the online population drops as the game ages. With the bb glitch and dupe item glitches apparently gone even with the lower Faith req. it'll be harder to rank up if you can't get many coop runs. Has anyone ever played through the game entirely offline? How many sunlight medals can you collect that way, using Solaire as a summon and picking up a few others in chests etc?

Chaos Bugs drop Sunlight Medals as a rare drop, so in theory you could get infinite amounts of Sunlight Medals even in offline mode. Counting all the bosses you can summon Solaire against, Gwyn included, you can get 9 in total in one NG without farming.
