Is Demon Souls worth getting after Dark Souls?

I bought Dark Souls about 4 months ago on a whim, after never having heard of it or demon souls before. The game completely blew me away, and I've been addicted ever since.

I haven't played Demon Souls, but after enjoying Dark Souls so much I've started thinking of buying it (on PS3). So I was wondering, is it worth getting now that Dark Souls is out? What are the differences between the two, and is the online aspect still active?

I'd really appreciate your thoughts.

this is still plenty of online action but probably the biggest difference is the equipment as your weapons binds with you and you keep it throughout the whole game and with coop youll only have half heath(make sure to find the ring that brings it up to 75%) but it defiantly worth getting if you like Dark Souls

You have a carry limit
No estus (heal with items)
Unlimited spell casts (refill mana with items)
No bonfires (only checkpoints at the start and end of each level)
Interconnected Hub world
Level structure is linear (not the levels themselves, but each area of the worlds have a boss at the end, and usually 3 areas and main bosses in each world)
Only two roll speeds (above and below 50%)
Slight differences in the stats system

The rest of the game mechanics are more or less identical

Worth playing? Absolutely!

Sums it up pretty well.

Also, grindy as heck upgrading system, but most of the upgrade paths are worth it and diverse.

Also, 3-1. Best atmosphere in a Souls game.

For some reason From Software sells games for cheap that (to me) seam a heck of alot better then games for $60 (demon souls was 20 new for me, and dark souls was 30 new, got dark souls for both ps3 and xbox!) and I first fell in love with From Software bc of the Armored Core series, If it has From Software on the box, buy it!

For the first question, absolutely yes.

As to the differences, there are actually a good number of differences. World Tendency is the first major one. In Demon's Souls, certain actions you take will alter the level so that the enemies become easier or tougher. Basically, doing "bad" things such as killing friendly NPCs or dying while in Human Form, will make the level harder, but doing "good" things such as killing bosses or black phantoms will make the level easier.

Second difference is that Demon's Souls isn't open-world and has less emphasis on exploration than Dark Souls. You navigate via a HUB world and a level select system.

Some smaller differences are that weapons don't have unique movesets (Moonlight Greatsword behaves exactly the same as a Claymore, for instance), weapon upgrading is a little less streamlined, armor can't be upgraded, there is no medium roll (the 'less than 50%' roll is the same as Dark Souls's Fast Roll), and boss souls can also be used to learn spells.

I can't really speak for the online aspect, since every time I try to go online nowadays with Demon's Souls it for some reason seems to cut me off from the rest of the players after ~15 minutes of playing :|

Well if you want to play online on Demon's Soul,you need to find people beforehand 'cause right now it's entirely empty :/

I've started playing it again since my internet went down and I can't PvP on DkS. It's a great game, but a lot of it feels dated compared to DkS. The dodging and moving just feels a bit funny, and it's much, much harder. Some enemies and bosses can and will OHKO you, and there are parts that are a lot easier for some builds than others; 3-1 is just unfair for pure melee builds. All in all, you should try it. I like the atmosphere and sense of oppression more than DkS, and it's a serious challenge if you try to go through some areas at a low level.

Yes, I would definitely recommend it.

The online isn't going to be as good as the golden age when areas were inundated with summon signs, but you should be able to get someone to help you out with certain spots if you look online or post in the chat.

You are missing out on some positively epic battles, like Old King Allant, Old King Doran and most importantly, frickin Flamelurker.

The world, atmosphere and OST are all on-par with Dark Souls.

I'd say yes it is worth it. Though don't expect to be as challenged as you were in Dark Souls. Not that one is exactly easier than the other, just that once you play one it will make the other seem easier since they're so similar. It's still a good experience, currently doing my first NG+ runthrough of it and enjoying it still.

I felt Vanguard was actually a lot easier than the Asylum Demon. Mainly because his damage hitboxes were way more clear.

well booze, lets just say my situation was identical to yours. i got demons and didn't regret it. really fun game, even though i prefer dark

Yeah its worth getting, imo its a bit harder, but its worth it. VERY hard to find people to summon thought. or for me it is.
