Has anyone noticed...

... when you talk to npcs they don`t move their mouths. Since there is no reason why From Software would not animate mouth movement, it makes me believe that communication in Lordrand is done by means of telepathy.

Some small lore fact there...

I noticed it when i was praising Ariamis.

Actually, there is ONE human npc who moves his mouth, though i wouldn't really call it lip syncing. Now you can try to find him

I think Quelaana moves her mouth, but most of them don't.

Telepathy is the new black in Dark Souls (or Souls series in general.) Words are shouted right into your brain, without ever bothering to strain the eardrums. As for Andre and Quelana, they just happened to be chewing gum while projecting their thoughts into your brain.

This seems like kind of a stretch.

I mean, come on. Communicating through..... telepathy? The notion that all communication is done telepathically in Lordran just doesn't fit contextually for me. Plus, if it's all telepathic, how come you have to be standing right in their face to do it?

Because their telepathy is broadcast within a pre-determined range, simply because they want you to be close enough to take their words seriously. The moment you step out of that range, the sound is immediately silenced, in a very inhumanly abrupt manner... Here's another fact, you can approach them from any direction, even directly facing their back or while circling around them and there isn't any difference in how their speeches sound (that can't be done with dialogues that are spoken through the mouth.)

Well, your character throws fireballs, walks on invisible ground, teleports, etc. Why is telepathy too fantastic?

You have to be standing right in front of somebody to talk because of gameplay reasons.

Why would From not animate mouth movement? Lack of resources or animators? I don`t think so.
