So, a guy at work who uses n4g.com as his info site informed me that dark souls creator is considering including a'easy' mode. There is of course a deep discussion to be had here. Google, n4g dark souls, and it'll come up rather easy.

What does the community here think? Im not sure i like it, unless there were restrictions. Like, no trophies from easy mode. AND you had to play online, so you could be invaded. (Obviously disconnecting online would be a counter to that) and, no NG+ option going from a easy mode save file. (People could probably just BB glitch the save but still.

I expect some very opinionated thoughts here on this.

The hard difficulty is one of the main points of the game. When compared to Demon's Souls, they've already made the game easier by introducing poise and allowing you to have full HP when you're not in body form. Also, you can pretty much tank most bosses just using heavy poise armor, at least in NG. I understand they want to make the game more appealing to a larger audience, but that doesn't justify allowing such a mode, in my opinion.

The whole idea for Dark Souls is "prepare to die." An easy mode would be an incredibly bad idea and goes against the game's motto. Yeah, I can see the desire to appeal to wider audiences but c'mon, this is Dark Souls we're talking about! I just don't want to see the souls series dumbed down at all.

No. They shouldn't even be considering it. The challenge/difficulty of the Souls series is what makes it great. Removing the difficulty so it can be choosen to be easy or hard would defeat the purpose of the game really and make it less of a challenge, and, in my opinion, less fun as well. The issue with some of today's gamers is that they don't enjoy difficulty that is set in game, they are to use to being able to choose difficulty.



But ya I hope the Souls series never gets any sort of easy mode.

Only if it's a 'troll' mode where every enemy is three times stronger and you have no invasion restrictions

Also, Dark Souls is not hard. It's just unforgiving and requires you to be smart. So it wouldn't be easy mode, it would be Stupid Mode.
It begins in the Kiln, with a Rapier +15 and a Hornet Ring, in front of Gwyn's fogdoor. Also, ripostes instagib him.

Honestly I would like a hardcore mode before an easy mode.

This is the reaction i wanted to see. If enough people vote, i'd like to send this thread Somewhere down the souls line for them to see and realize, easy mode would net them a NEW audience but potentially at the cost of its original fanbase.

I know if the next souls game (heaven help us if there ISN'T one) i won't be as apt to preorder/special addition it if they make easy mode. If they sacrifice that who knows how chopped up the rest of the game will become.

I enjoy this type of difficulty. Its not like some games, where hard mode is just high hp high dps enemies. Souls offers reward/punishment properties. Do good, survive. Do bad, die. As show by many speedruns/challenge videos. You can beat this game with minimal levels and EQ. So its not hard, just not mainstream i guess.

I expect if he doesnt see major backlash from that comment there will be easy mode next time.

I doubt they're even considering it. Miyazaki probably understands that putting in an easier mode would allow people to access the game more easily, but he understands the importance of the difficulty in the souls series and that the entire game hinges upon it.

It won't change, i think miyazaki understands the fanbase that he has loves the harsh way the game is.

The only new mode that needs to be added to future souls games is perma-gravelord mode. The Soul series is so acclaimed and liked in this modern era of gaming because of it's difficulty, which goes against the trend of "hurr durr lets casualize this game series to make it moar appealing" (see the Elder Scrolls, for example). If From added an easy mode it would destroy the integrity of the entire game. People don't play Souls games for the story or the graphics, hence why neither are prevalent in Dark/Demon Souls. No, people play these games for the challenge, and a piece of my heart will die on the day I see From lessen that challenge, and contribute to the cancerous state of modern gaming.

Someone can play for the story, yes, but that doesn't mean it's prevalent. A player who could go through the entire game without learning about the story.

We should start another petition or boycot, i'll not play the next game if they do that, doesn't matter if that does not change my experience, Dark souls has a amazing and engaged community which loves the game as it is, those players passed for all the obstacles they offered and fell proud about it, easy mode would kill the sense of acomplishment that is so import on this series because every Call of Duty player in the world would finnish it.

They will have to decide, easy mode or they fans.

About difficulty, some things on the game are not hard, are weird, like magic adjustment, many new players start as a pyromancer and stack intelligence thinking that it's going to improve the damage of their skills, when they finally find that it is not working many feel that it was too late to start again.

I'd like to see a Hardcore Mode a-la Diablo added in. With online leaderboards.

If it's optional, why not? How will someone else, playing on easy mode, affect your enjoyment of the game? Is it because you had to die a lot to obtain a weapon, and they did not?

I see "Easymode" all the time currently. I summoned someone on my new character and they were decked out with a +5 lightning weapon and ran through killing everything, then dropped me a +5 chaos rapier. How is that not easy mode? I've spoken to a few people on my friends list, and someone dropped them an OP weapon early in the game, that made the playthrough a breeze.

I see the very community saying "no" to easy mode actually giving easy mode themselves.

I'm all for it. If it attracts more people, and gives more money to FROM, and I can still have MY dark souls experience, then I don't care that people that aren't as "hardcore" as me (don't have as much time to devote) can enjoy this great game too.

And what is with people trying to kill FROM on here with petitions and boycotts? Do you want more Demon/Dark Souls or don't you? It's just being really nitpicky over an amazing game, that already has less sales than projected. Do you know how the game industry and how investment into games works?? They'll take their money, and development team, and focus on a game that makes more money. It's an awesome game, support it, the development team, and the company, and they'll keep making it. If you nitpick them to death, they'll move on.

I also see many people unlocking trophies by just asking for upgraded weapons. They didn't earn those either. So I don't see how the restriction on people helps anything, or lessens the amount of trophy farming.

Would we even be having this discussion if the game wasn't released on the Xbox/PC? :roll:

Seriously, all joking aside (and that is what it was people just a joke before anyone gets out of their pram over it) the answer has to be a resounding NO, and IMHO anyone who says otherwise really has not brought into the whole concept of what playing a 'Souls' game is all about.

Part of my enjoyment is completing a game that many people didn't, why am i wrong if a want to keep that? i don't want From software to become another Activision, i like From as it is.
