In the intro look at how they are introduced as the ones who found the souls. Gwyn was already a Lord with many, many knights.
The Witch of Izalith was well, the Witch of Izalith.
Nito First of the Dead, Nito is made up of a hell of a lot dead dudes, takes a while for lots of people to die.
Pygmy.
From this we at least know that Izalith was built and inhabited before they even found the Flame.
oh and PS GwynDude=Giant, Izalithian= Elf
