Tips and Ends
I was wondering if people could post pvp tips for those of us who dont use shields. For instance can you parry with a miracle tool or flame hand?

Re: Tips and Ends
Yeah you can't parry with a catalyst, talisman, or pyro flame.....it's best to keep something in reserve to parry with in the offhand to switch to. I like to use a weapon to parry with because I don't use shields much, but that's just me.
I've found that using shields or weapons specifically designed to parry aren't so good just because of how long the parry animation is. If you miss the parry, you're wide open until the animation ends.
But definitely try out a bunch of different weapons/shields first, you never know what you might like. Or go bare fist!

I never use shields I use to be a modder and I never used shields and people complained so I dont use them now and people die. I noticed that when you charge somebody head on with no regard sometimes you can easily overwelm them just be light on your toes
ps i I dont mod any more it realy does ruin the game it was fun at first but immortality is a ***** Now dying doesnt bother me but I rarely do anyway

Re: Tips and Ends
If you use something else than a shield in you off hand then i you could use :
A pyro flame with a GC attuned, no one will want to come near you. And if they do then they eat a GC to the face, you could also use the dusk crown and other equipment that increases it's damage. It's always useful. If you have a strong/slow weapon then you might need something faster to mix it up with. and if you have a dex weapon then you can make some nice combos with it.
A talisman with WoG, for the above reason. It's harder to combo with it though, and i prefer the pyro.
A spear, it's has range and speed. So it will always be useful. If you have a str weapon then you might need a faster alternative, and if you have a dex weapon then you might need something with a little range.
A rapier, only reason to choose this over the spear is because this can parry. So if you're not a good parrier, then either learn to parry or choose something else.

Oh hello another xbox player!
erm... not really very many offhand things that parry nicely. I run grass crest so I use that when I'm in a parrying mood. but your pretty stuck if you run 2 catalysts.

Re: Tips and Ends
You could use a kat in the offhand, or just keep a heater shield in the offhand with pyro in the main. If you're a str weapon user you probably won't have the stats for an offhand dex weapon, so you could make it chaos or lightning, or use a spear.

off hand a whip, it can't be parryed and it can be used to parry! plus it had decent range and won't bounce off shields when the dlc comes out!

Nothing will bounce off shields.

Re: Tips and Ends
I rarely use shields, so here's my guide on things to offhand.
Daggers, rapiers and katana's. They have a very short but also very quick parry animation. They're great for blind parries and well timed parries against some of the slower weapons.
Target shield, buckler and parrying dagger. These are all great. As said before the animation is a bit long, but you have massive room for error in return. I recommend the buckler and the target shield as they can also block, making block parries against "spammed" weapons much easier.
Whips. Because you can.
Curved swords. These have an average parry, its probably about as effective as a medium shield. It is however quite stylish and no one looks dumb using two painting guardian swords.
My personal favorites are rapiers, most people will run in and attack you right away. This lets you simply hit the L2 button as soon as they run up and score the parry. Offhanding a rapier is also great against lower poise builds. You can have a large hammer or ultra greatsword in the main hand, and an estoc in the offhand. use the estoc to break their poise and then use the bigger weapon to finish them off. Daggers and katana's work about the same, but they either lack the range or speed to match the usefulness of the rapier.

It doesn't work. I've tested it on the PC version.

Re: Tips and Ends
Whips are in fact a really good left hand weapon
Especially the Guardians Tail with its Poison effect, combine that with a Great Club and the Gravelord Sword and watch their life drain away
.
About Shield deflection : I think my Longsword bounced of a Havels Shield once . But it could have also been a wall

Re: Tips and Ends
I never use a shield while fighting, and these are some things that I always do:
Play fairly aggressive. I've found that some people are so used to fighting defensive players hiding behind shields they get overwhelmed by someone taking initiative.
Know when to two-hand your weapon and when not to. If someone doesn't have something in their left hand that is capable of parrying, it's all the better to wail on them.
Get a buff, you will spend most of your time attacking, so you might as well make the most of the first minute by picking up a buff like DMB or SLB. Crystal magic weapon works too.
Learn to dodge. Play a few no-shield runs through the game, it made me my'h better at dodging and learning when and when not to attack.
Study your opponent. Throw out a few "dry" attacks (attacks just out of range of your opponent) to see how they react.
Learn to NOT get parried. If you see someone with a parrying dagger, a buckler, or a target shield in the off-hand, expect a parry. I tend to use something I like to call "hesitation attacks" when I see someone trying to parry. I just wait a split-second longer than normal to attack and the person trying to parry will no longer be able to time their parries.
If it suits your build, stack poise. You WILL get hit sometimes for not usin% a shield, so a little poise can go a long ways.
Good luck, and I hope I helped.
