Re: solaire and chaos
Well think about his journey for a second, From the parish he goes to the depths, then he heads to Anor londo, he then returns to the Sunlight Shrine And then heads down to izalith.......why? we know hes searching for his "sun" could the flame of chaos be his sun? his own wonderous sun?

Re: solaire and chaos
I don't know why he decides to go to Izalith, my only idea could be that he has heard whispers of it being a home to his sun, meaning that the chaos flames are tantamount to his objective.
Which is weird because Gwyn is very connected to the lightning element. If anything, I would have imagined he should have stuck around Anor Londo a little more, seems like there is a lot to discover there that would be of interest to Solaire.

Re: solaire and chaos
Well Gwyn seems to be connected to fire (when we fight him) and lighting. He went to the last place where the gods where to investigate for clues, and then descended to Izalith. After all the sun is made of fire, so why not investigate the city where the Witch of Izalith was last seen?

Re: solaire and chaos
Maybe he was the Chosen Undead in his world, as we can summon him to fight Gwyn so he obviously got the Lord Vessel and filled it, meaning he killed Nito, Seath, 4 Kings and I guess the Bed of Chaos if you save him from going nuts.

Re: solaire and chaos
Iirc he says something among the line that his sun might be at Lost Izalith . So he just goes there for his "Sun" .
And about the Sunlight Maggots . They are his Sun . There is only one that shines like a Sun, and if we kill that one he wont find it and thus wont turn insane (not Hollow. Insane just like Logan) . What is interesting though , why doesnt he turn hollow when he doesnt find his Sun? He failed his Quest/Desire .
Other People went Hollow because they failed to achieve something. Laurentius for example not finding Quelana or Vince (?) and Nico (?) failing to protect Rhea . Anyway i digress .
I dont think Solaire is in any way connected to Chaos

Well, what if he doesn't believe himself to have failed but rather simply is depressed as not to finding his sun thinking that it's still out there? You haven't failed until you give up.

Good Point .
But he still sounds so shattered and questioned if his Sun was real to begin with ("Was it all a lie?") which is why i thought he gave up .

Re: solaire and chaos
True, perhaps he's close to giving up but not quite there?
As to answer the topic, i don't think he has any relation to chaos. Why? Because chaos in the game seems to represent so much unlike what he represents. It just doesn't feel like there could be any relation to it.
Edit: As for the reason to him being in Izalith, perhaps he just somehow heard of the sunlight maggot being there and just felt the need to seek it out in belief that he'd finally find his sun.

Re: solaire and chaos
He goes crazy because the Sunlight Maggot is a parasite and drives him crazy. If you kill the Sunlight Maggot it doesn't attach to his body, therefore he doesn't go crazy.

Re: solaire and chaos
Yet when you wear it yourself you don't go crazy. I would actually assume the reason he goes hollow is because he believes himself to have reached his goal, that belief stopping him from continuing, thus he fails his quest and instead goes hollow.

Re: solaire and chaos
You don't go crazy because you're the player and can't. It's like when you wore the head wrap from the Old Monk in Demon's Souls. It was supposed to mean you were being controlled but you weren't.

Edit: Besides, if we can't go crazy, why can we die? Crazy could just be another explanation for dying, so i really doubt that thing makes him crazy.
Edit2: Oh, and about the monk headwrap, just for the fun of it i'd like to point out that it has no effect because your character is already being controlled....
BY YOU!
On a more serious note, perhaps that ?curse? broke once you acquired it?

I could put it this way, it doesn't drive us crazy because we wear it after we kill it. Presumably it attaches to his head while it's still alive.

Yeah, but even then, he might as well have killed it, seeing as it looks exactly the same as it does when we wear it, dead that is.

Or it's taken over his body, as most parasites do. That at least was always my interpretation.

Re: solaire and chaos
Thats just it . We are supposed to make up our own story about our Character .They even said so in an interview .
We could imagine we are the lost son of the God of War or that we are the Pygmy . Thereare is enough plot holes vagueness that most of it would make sense .
Which curse do you mean Tart ? The Dark sign ?
A loathsome parasite that inhabits Lost
Izalith. It is completely immobile, yet still
lives.
When worn on the head, it emanates
blinding light, which is why it is known
as a Sunlight Maggot.
Its alive when we wear it .

Re: solaire and chaos
If you talk to him at the Altar of Sunlight after finishing Anor Londo, he says that he still didn't find his Sun, and wonders where it would be. He says the following:
I did not find my own sun, not in Anor Londo, nor in Twilight Blighttown.
Where else might my sun be? Lost Izalith, or the Tomb of the Gravelord… ?
He goes to Lost Izalith by chance, he starts looking there and not in the Tomb of Giants.
As for why he goes insane, it's because he could not find his Sun, and he sees the Sunlight Maggot (whose shape resembles a Sun, and emits light) and goes delusional.

I was referring to that monk headwrap taking control of you. Seeing as i haven't played DS i don't know whether it's considered a curse or something else, so i referred to it as a curse.

Are we debating why the maggot affects Solaire or why he was even there in the first place?

Interesting, even then i'd like to believe that it's not the maggot but rather what i said earlier.
Edit: Both, though i think we got our answer to why he's there thanks to Cali.
