Yeah I definitely just loaded up a build that's right at the end and am doing the DLC stuff I killed O&S with this build like 5 months ago, and it isn't preventing me from doing anything.

Its a shame that the Hydra gets overlooked so often in this game. I usually summon people near the Butterfly entrance and then have to point in the opposite direction, to go kill the Hydra and save Dusk, and THEN to kill the Butterfly. It's more fun with Summons, and it's just fun in general. Most people don't even bother with the Butterfly, unless they need the Ember heh heh!
I, for one, find killing the Hydra the best way to access Sif - no constant invasions the second you step through the Artorias door. You can sneak through the back way, and the Invaders will sometimes never think to look for you over there. And by the time they do, you're already at Sif. Or hiding in the trees, like me!

I did the same thing on the first run. I killed the Duke's golem and didn't get the drop. I was like, "NG+?!" But turns out he respawns if you haven't saved Dusk yet, so not a big deal.

It was nice of them to put him so early in the Archives, I was annoyed at the thought of having to run all the way out to the woods there. I took a mage as my first char into the DLC given all the new spells, and coincidentally had him already parked in Anor Londo (and he'd already saved Dusk) so it took maybe 5 minutes to access the DLC. I was like, I'm a genius! -- and then I got completely pwned by the guardian heh.
