Odd Dark Souls Geography Empty Odd Dark Souls Geography

Post by PlasticandRage Wed Nov 21, 2012 12:58 am

I'm playing in New Londo right now, and I just got to the area past the locked door you open with the key to the seal, in the small area where you pick up the Composite Bow. It just occurred to me that the little ledge there is the machicolation above the large castle door that you use to enter New Londo from the Valley of the Drakes, like from where you pick up the Composite Bow you can actually turn and see down into the Valley. So I was looking around and noticed that the collapsed gate on the other side has one also, that's set up the same way. It's got a small enclosed machicolation above the gate with a little dark doorway in the center. It just made me remember that I feel like I remember reading somewhere once that New Londo was a sister city to some other city. I can't remember what though. So that leads me to the purpose of the post, what would be on the other side of that gate if it weren't collapsed? The elevator to the side of it leads to the Darkroot Basin, we know that, but what would be under the Basin? Blighttown? The part of the Great Swamp that's habitable?

I thought it was that some of the founders/architects of Anor Londo moved to New Londo to establish a new city.

Yeah I think that's stated at some point also, or possibly has just been speculated about. Regardless of that, the collapsed gateway still would have been a gateway to something. I guess you could argue that New Londo was just double gated/walled. As in the bridge with the drakes would be a defensive structure with manned walls on both sides, but the machicolation and turrets on the other wall are facing New Londo, which leads me to believe that they were built as defensive structures against New Londo. Know what I mean? Even any lore speculation aside, I'm wondering what part of Lordran would geographically fall in that direction?

Oh oh. I see what you're saying. That Anor Londo is it's sister city. Yeah that makes perfect sense, and I guess makes the fact that NL has a sister city irrelevant to the gates.

I say it was a gate to Oolacile. Geography-wise it would make sense.

According to ublug's map, which I was perusing earlier today, I think it actually might make sense for that gate to have something to do with old Oolicile.

Half of the DLC is underground. I think the weight of the abyss made Oolacile collapse into itself thus blocking that connection to New Londo. Which leads me to believe its how "Darkroot" Basin was made. It all makes sense when you put it together.

I think it's content that they ran out of time to do. A bit like Sen's fortress with it's oddities like areas that can't be reached normal means can be walked on and that very odd walkway where the balder knight is standing. I bet at one point there was a door going to be put there but From removed it. New Londo could have at one point had a multiple path option and considering the Abyss boss arena is a massive open plane of nothingness, then the boss battle could have easily worked between the two. If true then it's a damn shame that we will never get to see the intended vision of this game.

If you look at the Kalameet boss arena and compare it to the first Hydra boss arena that gigantic hole had to have been made by something. Judging the geography of The Royal garden an Oolacile township it would make perfect sense that Oolacile was in that very spot the basin is in. Also since the elevator in the valley of the drakes brings you to the lowest point in darkroot basin would make sense that the gigantic doorway led into Oolacile. New Londo's sister city.

Another thing, Oolacile was famous for it light producing sorceries whil New Londo was famous for it healers an healing sorceries. It doesn't seem like just a coincidence to me. Also the are the two places that got affected by the abyss. It's all finally clicking in my head.

I also agree on the cut content. I think it was either going to be a shortcut out of Oolacile or a branching path into Oolacile. Would have made sense since they made the valley of the drakes a sort of HUB. Also Oolaxile was planned for original content but got cut due to time..... I think that's why anyways. silly

I think that's probably dead on. I don't know that I'd think it applies to the collapsed gate specifically, but maybe, but I do think you're absolutely right about those places in Sens. That one walkway with the Balder Knight has never sat right with me.
