Re: humanity count usage
If you can manage to get it up to 99 it can raise your defenses/resistances slightly higher. Besides that, it is a bit pointless besides having a lot of extra humanity to revert to human or kindle bonfires.

Re: humanity count usage
Those guys are right. 53 humanity will still give you a considerable boost in resistances and it increases your chance of getting drops off enemies. Also its always good to have a stash. Never know when you're going to get invaded repeatedly and slaughtered!

The Daughter of Chaos' covenant takes humanity. Give her 30 and you''ll get a nice shortcut to Lost Izalith.

Re: humanity count usage
Kindle every bonfire you can all the way to 20, then in later playthroughs you won't have to worry about the rite of kindling until much later if at all. Also, soft humanity that is in the counter adds to your curse resistance and possibly a few others as well. It also increases item discovery by a significant amount. As has been already stated, the servants of chaos covenant takes humanity to rank up and with 30 humanity you reach rank 2 gaining access to the shortcut to lost Izalith and allowing you to skip both the demon fire sage and the centipede demon as well as the spell chaos firestorm.

Re: humanity count usage
Having a high Humanity count is very useful when it comes to a planned night of hosting, providing you stay in close proximity to the last bonfire you rested at.
