Just that. It doesn't make any sense to add a catalyst that it's equal or inferior to the others.

WHAT!?It inflicts poison, doesn't it?
This is headline news for me! I thought it was a waste of a catalyst

You had to give those mages in the DLC some sort of a catalyst to wield, didn't ya?
The Ivory Cat? Too pure. The Manus? Too lofty/powerful. So, voila! That's what they came up with.
And yeah, I get a little bit poisoned whenever those mages slap me with their catalyst.

No, it doesn't cause poison. At least not when used by players.
EDIT: I've been reading it lots of places that it causes poison, but I've never managed to trigger, how do you guys do it?

It has a slightly lower INT requirement than the Oolacile Ivory Catalyst. Tremble before the 10 INT Warrior-Mage and his mighty Soul Arrow.
Jokes aside, it would allow most characters to cast Magic Weapon efficiently with the most minimal INT investment imaginable. Not the best buff spell available, but 144 magic damage isn't bad if there are no other options available.

Whack your enemies continuously with it. Don't waste time casting spells, because that's not what catalysts are meant for.

This. It has the highest values at INT of 10 and 11, so you could cast magic weapon/shield at base INT. Not the most useful thing ever, but would have it's uses. Say if you were doing a low SL challenge run or something it could come in handy. Or if you're using a pure STR or DEX build and going for +15 for a high scaling weapon you could still buff.
Although I'm not sure if just regular magic weapon would be any more or less effective than resin buffs.

Thanks, I've been using Catalysts wrong all this time then.
Seriously: okay thanks, will try it later, I hit some enemies with it but it didn't trigger poison, maybe I didn't hit them enough times.

It seems to be an ok option for the absolute point shaver, if you can't afford to spare any points past base INT. If you're building off a class that has at least 10 to start. Highly niche of course but oddly enough more so viable than a lot of other pieces of gear that are outclassed by something better every step of the way.

it inflicts the same amount of poison as the poison arrows do i think, plus its poison is stronger than hose listed on weapons like the large club, the catalyst lists 300 poison (damage in a minute?), the large club lists 180 poison, so i think its poison is more virulent than others avaliable, but seriously what they should have done with it is make the poison apply to spells fired from it but noooo....

It came in handy for my SL1 character, since Pyromancer has only 10 Int, so I could cast some pathetic spells with it. Not that it's any usefull for SL1 run, but it was a welcoming change from all that Pyro for a bit.
It also inflicts Poison, but very slowly. I've tried it in PvP and managed to poison my opponent, even though I died shortly after.
Unless you got only 10 Int and can't/don't want to raise it, it's your best choice for casting Sorceries, other than that, the Ivory version is better, since it's lighter.
I was hoping it would make spells inflict Poison, or perhpas make Dark Fog inflict Poison faster, or chage the Poison into Toxic, but nope...

Seignar you made my night with this post , I had a horrible night in pvp so thank you. I like that we are considering poison on a catalyst a viable option. Dont we have weapons for that. Anyway I think Rarayn covered its real use. But headline news indeed Seignar , fear the poison on this **** catalyst , FEAR IT!!!!
Also seriously who repped down Seignar , I guess humor is lost on some.
