Hello to you all! I'm VERY interested in the things you find here, particularly the 'Pendant' gift.
Now I was very curious that all the myth about the pendant came from Hidetaka Miyazaki, who said that a player's starting gift should be either the pendant or
nothing, here's whats got me curious, why nothing? I made some theories, like 'nothing' is actually something, that maybe unlock 'something' in the late game or even NG+. Well, I started to look for the original post/article, well I have found this http://darksoulswiki.wikispaces.com/Articles+%26+Interviews#Articles%20&%20Interviews-Japanese%20News-%E3%80%8EDARK%20SOULS%EF%BC%88%E3%83%80%E3%83%BC%E3%82%AF%E3%82%BD%E3%82%A6%E3%83%AB%EF%BC%89%E3%80%8F%E3%83%87%E3%82%A3%E3%83%AC%E3%82%AF%E3%82%BF%E3%83%BC%E5%AE%AE%E5%B4%8E%E6%B0%8F%E3%81%AB%E7%9B%B4%E6%92%83%E3%82%A4%E3%83%B3%E3%82%BF%E3%83%93%E3%83%A5%E3%83%BC%EF%BC%81.
- "The only gift that you can't find within the game world is the
"Master Key", which also has a significant impact on the game, though
exactly how was not mentioned. However, Miyazaki recommended choosing
the Master Key on the second or third playthrough, rather than the first
- Miyazaki's recommendation for a gift is the Pendant on your first playthrough, or no gift at all"
Let me explain my thoughts about this. When you start a new game, that you play for the first time, you want your experience to be raw, pure, without any spoilers, gifts are essentially either helping tools or spoilers for lore and whatever there is to it, if its your first time playing DS and you want to play it 'clean' then you should pick no gift at all, or... the pendant? As I see it, the pendants description is very accurate, for when you will pass your first game, and reach NG+, it may remind you of how naive you were, and what mistakes you made, and all those times where you couldn't pass this one boss, and you thought that you will never beat this game, I think the pendant is made only for the player, to bring the player abit of nostalgia.
Of course that will also explain why he advices you to pick master key on your second-third playthrough, it is well known to be a MUST-HAVE item for experienced players, that know what they do, where to go, who to kill. They no longer need the pendant, for they already been through all of this.
So yes, I think the pendant is made purely for the player, specifically for new player to DS.
Sorry if I might have let down some of you guys, still, its my humble opinion, and I might be greatly mistaken here. Hahaha...
