Yes, but it would be hard to balance, no?

I have this topic in Dark Souls 2 thread, I advise the use of search function, but I 'm not going to be a **** and not contribute to someones conversation so here's my thoughts. There should be another player controlled boss, but it needs some stricter summoning definitions than the Old monk, I suggested a gear lock that if say your gear is 2-3 upgrades higher than the players in the area you are summonable (Soul level also taken into acount) too strong of gear ruins the boss fight for newer players, I never had this problem becuse I bought played and beat Demon's within 6-7 months of release with the old monk being my second arch-demon destroyed, so I never had to face low level endgame gear trolls.

Perhaps the player controls a preset character rather than their own?

Controlling a preset would make sense, restrictions on player's gear is strange.

Forum, I was skeptical of this idea until you said that. That is awesome.

It could even be expanded (if it fits the lore) into a randomly selected preset from a group of 3. 1 "quality" (melee only), 1 sorcerer and 1 faith hybrid.
(lower sl hybrids work properly instead of the sl120 all gain, no pain builds. they sacrifice damage and hp for versatility.

Controlling a monster would be amazing! I want to be a Taurus demon or Nito.

I was about to say this, afterall a fixed preset normal character as a boss would be very boring to play in the long run and you run into the issue of being underpowered when fighting someone in max gear.

Then they were OP and would have wiped the boss anyways, and fighting an unknown enemy should be far from boring, especially if they brought phantoms.
There could even be a custard tornado style reward for success (though less obnoxious)

But think about it. If you can customize your character to what you want for invading, then playing a boss with fixed gear isn't going to be as fun as that.

I agree it's a good thing, I've already said its the kinda thing I'd like to see again.
I would say though the boss would need to either be late game or the player would control preset character for fairness sake. I'd personally go for just making it late game again and let it be a nice roulette

Re: For all you Demon's Souls Veterans
picture this if you will.
you get ripped from your world unexpectedly and find yourself being summoned into an arena filled with the debris of countless battles. from the dais overlooking the arena stands a gaunt man shrouded in heavy robes. he leans on an ornate staff he holds in one hand and with his free hand he points a crocked finger down towards a hulking lump of machinery in the centre of the arena. wooden cogs begin to creak as they start to turn and heavy iron plates shudder as the pile of machinery comes to life and takes the form of an iron golem that has been cobbled together from scraps. as it begins to stand upright, the robed figure waves his boney hand and you feel your soul twist painfully within you. suddenly you realize that the iron golem is hollow and that you were not meant to be its next opponent! the robed figure clenches his hand into a fist and your soul reluctantly evacuates its vessel. you were meant to power the hulking golem!
yup, i definitely like the idea of being summoned into a boss battle where you get to play as the boss rather than as a dark wraith. but i have to say that being summoned as a wraith to act as the boss is pretty epic as well. either option would be awesome really.

Re: For all you Demon's Souls Veterans
I honestly think the days of innovative mechanics in the souls games' are over.
That said, if they did do a boss like that, it would indeed require proper study and balancing on it. Most of the fights I had with old monk players were pretty decent. The boss would have a lot of health but no food and the player would just be the normal player, so it wasn't like it was very unbalanced or anything like that as far as I'm concerned.
However, I thought it was wrong that they let the boss prepare for a while, whilst the player had to kill 2 or 3 enemies before reaching the area. Because of this, one time I was the boss and I was playing my heavy armoured - heavy weapon warrior and I put myself next to the entrance. As the player was entering I timed my R2 to perfection and one-shotted the poor guy. It was beautiful and sad at the same time. So yeah... stuff like that shouldn't be able to happen if they do this type of thing again xD
