I've been having the weirdest dreams lately. I think it's because I've been so tired. Been sleeping really deeply

I've been baking for the past three hours and the end is not in sight at all. :x

Baking what?

I'm making French macarons. The cookie shells take a long time to prepare since I have to process and sift the ground almonds and confectioner's sugar until it is very fine, make the Italian meringue, macaronage the mixture, pipe out each cookie shell, put a snowflake sprinkle on each, and let them air for an hour before baking them in batches (I made 100 shells, so that will be about 50 cookies). For te filling, I've prepared a strawberry cranberry jam for the center and white chocolate ganache (I ran out of white chocolate, so I need to go buy more in a moment!)

I'm also making cake pops. About 50 of them. Less labour intensive, but it will be a PITA to coat and decorate each one individually (vanilla cake coated in white chocolate with candy cane sprinkles).

And I'm also making regular cranberry chocolate chip cookies.

TL;DR version: 50 French macarons, 50 cake pops, 50 cranberry chocolate chip cookies = never looking at sweets again.

Sorry to hear that.

That he/she may find peace, or the strength necessary to do what he/she wanted.

Part of me is always prepared for it. Living the way that a lot of people I care about live, but prepared or not, doesn't stop it from hurting. I'm so sad for his family.

Overdose. Some of you know from the "let it out" thread that I'm also in recovery. Statistically my result is the oddity. Not many people survive it once it starts. This isn't nearly my first, and sadly most likely won't be the last friend I have to say goodbye to in our 20's. It doesn't get any easier.

Thanks. All of you. It really is. It's a terrible trap. He wasn't a dumb guy by any means either. You just can't outsmart addiction. It doesn't care if you were brought up well, or come from a good family, or have good friends who care about you, or the possibility of a promising future.

Plastic, I didn't know about this, but I just want to say that I'm very proud of you. I don't know you very well, but you seem to have really kicked addiction in the butt and have accomplished a lot since. You are an inspiration.

My thoughts and prayers go out to you and his family, Plastic. I'm sorry you have to go through something like this.

Thanks guys. It's a terrible thing. I'm just over 3 years clean now, and because of the nature of the illness I've had to put some distance between myself and that part of my life. So he hasn't really been a part of my daily life in a long time. That's part of the reason I spend so much time playing video games and screwing around on the internet. I've kinda had to become a recluse from the majority of my circle of friends in order to protect myself from it. What hurts more than anything is that I know what his family must be going through right now, because I almost put my family through it. It pretty much broke my mother for awhile, and I know this guy's mother very well. She's a sweet lady, and I feel really badly that she has to go through this at all. It's awful.

Sorry guys. Not intentionally making it a habit of bringing up such depressing crap in this thread. I just kinda don't have anyone else to grieve with about this. My family doesn't really want to discuss it, aside from just relating it to my own situation, and the majority of my friends are either still actively a part of that world, or have distanced themselves the same way, enough so that we don't really relate much to each other anymore.

I was feeling down and just idly clicked on this thread and read about Plastic's friend. It made me realise that I've got a lot to be thankful for. I'm so sorry to hear about your friend Plastic and I have to say, after reading about your fight with drugs, I admire you a lot because I've heard how hard it is to give them up. In spite of what has happened, I hope you have a great Christmas and that goes for all my fellow forum members, who have been a source of much joy this past year. Here's to a Happy 2013!
