Anonymous, your thoughts? Empty Anonymous, your thoughts?

Post by Godless Servant Thu Jan 19, 2012 5:38 pm

NOW, if you want to know what they are Planning to do to Sony, Read the intreview that Playstation Lifestyle had with Anonymous *representive*

    http://playstationlifestyle.net/2012/01/04/stopping-sopa-anonymous-talks-motives-aims-and-hurting-sony/

*********Would you like Sony to go bankrupt?*******

    No.
Why do you think we’re not targeting PSN? If we bankrupt them it will hurt consumers a lot. Sony is used by a lot of people, and overall a good company, they just have some bad policies at the moment.

    "
What about the Sony executives who aren’t actually involved in SOPA? I saw the CC details on a PlayStation employee being passed around.

The executives are the ones that make these decisions, they shouldn’t have supported SOPA in the first place. Also we don’t randomly use that info, we plan on using it to ship the soon to be free goods to wherever needed. I.E. ship them to the occupy movements.

Now this Op is rather different to last year’s in that Sony is the target, consumers aren’t. Do you think the original Op was handled incorrectly?

I think so, I think that we hurt the common people and we learned from that and the BART protests… as I said, Anonymous is evolving, more efficient, and more dangerous to those who dare do wrong.

Well you are still trying to limit their free speech right to support SOPA.
“I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it.” – Evelyn Beatrice Hall

That is not the point to this operation, our main objective is to make Sony lose enough money where they not only withdraw support to SOPA but actively oppose it. Everyone should have free speech, however there is a fine line. If what a few say hurts the rights of millions of users, then a few hours or days of silence is a small price to pay. But again, we are not intending to take away their communication.

But like you said before, most customers don’t use Sony.com. People don’t go to Sony sites to buy Sony stuff. Do you think that it’ll really hurt their revenue that much?

Yes considering we plan on making all the stuff free, then for the shipping we will use the CEO’s CC info, not to mention we are out in the real world, and it only takes one whisper for it to go viral that now you can get a TV for only the price of shipping.
[..I really dont want to see this happen, Please Sony, dont let it happen]

But in real life, whenever there is a terrorist attack, politicians are able to quickly pass laws and legislation that limit free speech, riding a wave of public fear. This time, people are trying to pass laws and legislation that limits internet free speech. As a response, you are doing something that could loosely be described as terrorism.

Last time I checked the purpose of #OpSony isn’t to make them do what we want with fear, it’s with quarterly reports. So it’s more of a protest.

But the mass media will present you as terrorists, SOPA supporters will be able to say “we don’t negotiate with terrorists,” and gain support for what is otherwise a flawed and unpopular bill. We’re still seeing laws passed that limit human rights due to post-9/11 fear.

Yes we know this, and we have already been presented by certain mass media sources… *cough* Fox News *cough* as terrorists. And we laugh at this wild accusation. Plus you forget that we are giving the people free movies and music, they will more likely see us as robin hoods.

But you already said that movies and music are easy to get anyway.

True, but not movies out in the movie theaters… Or new movies like that.

So innocent directors and screenwriters will be hurt? They’re not part of the 1%

Again, that’s not the point here. We don’t want to hurt anyone but the Sony executives, and Sony’s bank accounts. Unfortunately this plan is not perfect, and I don’t claim it is, I admit there will be unfortunate losses by some who were not intended targets. And we shall apologize for this.

    And..In the end

But surely Sony isn’t the focus of the attack, stopping SOPA is.

    True.
But through Sony we can get to SOPA, also Nintendo is starting to hum a different tune at the same time as Sony. They already took of their name, but they haven’t officially gone against it, or withdrawn support.

    "When will this hack happen?"

When will this plan to takeover Sony.com be enacted?

If I’m not mistaken, once all other preparations have been completed and team Iota has caused enough chaos, it shall begin. The actual hack will be on January 23rd. The plan is to hack into their sites all the time leading up to the 23rd.
Then team gamma’s info (the dox team) and team beta’s formatting, along with team alpha’s links to download everything, and team epsilon’s work on the store so everything is free will be put into place. Along with an Anonymous press release.

Some of you may have already read this and I'm sorry if you have, I'm curious what everyone thinks of this group and what they're planning/trying to do.

I'm somewhat aware of their activities, back when they started opening attacking the Sci-fi's. Honestly I don't know what to think, on one hand I think it's good that they are raising awareness, on the other I think some of their stunts go to far.

So they are getting at Sony to get to SOPA

It's a good strategy. If the Boss has a hard outer shell, find it's weak points and deal massive damage.

Oh yeah, Sony is a player in the music industry. If anyone wants to really mess with them, and probably really anger them, they need to hit Hollywood and other major music... publishers? not sure where the fire is coming from on the music end.

If it wasn't for the fact that Sony is probably really sick of being messed with, I secretly wish someone would hack them stupidly hard and force them to back of SOPA. Actually that applies for anyone trying to push it forward. Mess with the internet? We'll make you regret it.

On jan 23rd or sometime there after they plan on hacking Sony so that consumers would only pay shipping and handling on any products purchased, idk I think their plan needs to be a little more thought out but we'll see what happens in the next week.

Whoa that will cause huge blows indeed, but only if the website actually gets as much financial activity as anonymous thinks it does. I don't think I've ever heard of anyone buying directly from sony website. Most people I know buy from places like CraigsList, eBay, etc Or just go to a store.

Maybe anonymous should rethink their game plan.

Think about this...if 10,000 people go on their site and buy a TV for just the shipping, that is 10,000,000 in losses! I know you are thinking, well they won't ship them, but the point is that Sony fullfillment is handled automatically, meaning you buy it, you get it shipped.

By the way, I am not advocating the use of an exploit, just want that stated! Also I do not agree with what Anonymous is doing, but it is my e-opinion and they are fighting to make sure that my e-opinion does not get silenced whether I agree with their methods or not.

Messing with the price of merchandise is ordinary theft. On the other hand, I doubt that Sony will fulfill the orders.

On the whole, Anonymous always struck me as childish and short-sighted. The George "geohot" Hotz nonsense is Exhibit A. It amazes me that people feel entitled to merchandise from a company with no strings attached (you must sell me PS3s and they must have the features I like, or I'm going to engage in a massive DNS attack against you!).

SOPA is a different story, but I don't trust Anonymous to come up with a solution that makes any sense. All of their attacks just so happen to either make financial data available to unscrupulous people or to make "free" merchandise available to unscrupulous people. It seems rather self serving if you're someone looking to make a quick buck.

Wikipedia is a better model for protesting SOPA.

Has anonymous never heard of insurance? Any money they cause Sony to loose Sony will recoup and probably more. Good effort bad plan.

All Sony has to do is shut down the website. The hit to their wallet will be in the Hundreds of thousands, instead of the hundred of millions.

My question is if Sony would be able to make the consumers who take advantage of this legally responsible? Like filing charges against anyone that gets something free as an accomplice to theft.

The temptation to some might be too much. Who would say no to a PS3 for only ten bucks?

How can they shut it down if these guys keep it up?

Also, I doubt they're insured enough to cover the potential loss.
