Top 5 Games of 2012 Empty Top 5 Games of 2012

    Post by Noob-of-Artorias Mon Jan 07, 2013 4:19 am

Well Ladies and Gentlemen, it's that time of year again...
Time to post your Top 5 Games of 2012, and I'm here to start us all off.

To make this a little less hectic, let's limit everything to games released in 2012.

Special Mention to any and all DLC's for 2011 releases.

    5. Call of Duty Black Ops 2
Say what you will about CoD. but I think Blops 2 was a step in the right direction after a couple of years of stumbles, and the multiplayer is the finest since MW2.

    4. Mass Effect 3
Despite the ending to the series not being up to snuff, Mass Effect 3 was still a highly memorable game that brought the series polish to a shine, and who could forget that last Mordin Mission...

    3. The Walking Dead
A game that I was encouraged to play, and ended up enjoying a whole lot more than I initially thought it would. Likeable characters, an interesting story and a bundle of atmosphere made this one hell of a game.

    2. Spec Ops: The Line
A complete surprise, Spec Ops is not a fun game, but an arresting one. What started out as a banal and by the numbers shoot'em up evolved into one of the most thought provoking and refreshing game stories ever. If I was measuring games strictly by how important I think they are, this would be at number 1.

    1. Halo 4
Easily the most fun I've had all year, and easily the best entry to the Halo Series. Halo 4 gave the Halo franchise a much needed makeover that takes the amazing base formula and updates it to blow you out of the water.

BTW, I apologize if this comes off like some kind of extended sales pitch, I'm a little drunk, and really quite tired....

I did a GOTY 2012 thread but I'm gonna play along silly

    5. FTL
A great rogue-like space action-adventure game. It's like Star Trek, you have your own ship, and you have to go from point A to B, you have only 1 life, if you lose, game over. The best thing about this game is the randomized galaxy, every time you play the galaxy is randomaly generated, with lots of surprises. Space Slugs, check. Organic-Robot species, check. Ship to ship fight, check. Possibility to aboard enemy ship, check. Deep and challenging gameplay, check.

    4. Legend of Grimrock
To my complete surprise, this grid-based dungeon crawler action-rpg hooked me right from the start, it's an awesome game, I couldn't stop playing it until I beat it (15 hours lol), and then I started to play the user made dungeons (it has a free dungeon editor that's very easy to use).

    3. Natural Selection 2
This awesome Sci-fi FPS-RTS hybrid multiplayer-only game is an example of the innovation games can make, obviously the idea started with Natural Selection 1 but this game perfected the formula and made it 100x times better and more deep.

    2. Hotline Miami
This is the GOTY to me. Along with number 1, they are both the best games of 2012. This mainly for it's fresh feeling. Extremely high difficulty (you die in 1 hit, but so do your enemies). Strange story, you are always wondering what is really happening, and what is only in your mind. A great game that will surprise until it's very end. And it has very catchy electronic music that fits well the retro 80 art style and the bloodbaths.

    1. Chivalry: Medieval Warfare
The evolution of medieval combat. The evolution of sword combat. This is what every game that has swords should hope to achieve when it comes to combat. This game it's already almost perfect because of it's combat. Yes, combat combat combat, sadly the only to experience it is to play it. You will never know the feeling until you try it yourself. Hard, realistic, complex combat system. Extremely high skill cap (like for an e-sport). This game delivers the almost the same feeling of achievement that Dark Souls and Demon's Souls gave me the first time I played them. It's so darn hard the combat, but once you master it you will be slashing newbies' head like a madman. That is, until you face a good player like yourself, then the true challenge will begin, and believe beating this kind of challenges gives you as I said, almost the same feeling that Dark Souls gives.

PlayStation All Stars Battle Royale, Dragon's Dogma, Far Cry 3, and then Dark Souls will have to take both the #2 and #1 spots. Those were all the games I've played this year, so this list will have to do.

    3. Starhawk- Yeah the singleplayer sucked but honestly the multiplayer is a lot of fun to me.

    2. Dark Souls: Artorias of the Abyss- Yeah it's DLC but it adds a lot to Dark Souls and was really fun.

    1. Far Cry 3- This game, I can't even describe it. I was no Skyrim fan and was even fearing I may not like this game after it was described as "Skyrim with guns." but it's far from Skyrim to me. Somehow this game just drew me in. My Game of Year for 2012.

Yeah I only have three, didn't get much in 2012 year. I did get Assassin's Creed 3 for Christmas but haven't played much of it yet to give a personal opinion on it yet.

The Walking Dead, and Spec Ops the Line are the only games of 2012 that I can think of which I like. Other than that there was nothing of the year that interested me, hopefully 2013 will be different. Hopefully Pikmin 3 will be coming out, in which case you guys might not see me on here as much.

Dark Souls took up my last 2 years of gaming lol. Only games actually released in 2012 ive played so far are Dragons Dogma(which i returned, not because i hated it but because i wasn't playing it and needed some money for food...i'm poor) and Final Fantasy 13-2(which i'm enjoying). Oh and Persona 4A, which i really like.

I really want to play the new xcom, i just cant afford to buy so many games anymore. I'm on a really tight budget, i bought a few cheaper games recently and despite them being great games i just regreted it because i was screwed when i had to pay some bills. Need to get a job with better pay and more hrs...

From what I've heard with Black Ops 2 they actually did vary things up, though I haven't personally tested that out since I'm not into that series.

They didn't, I'm telling you. I have played all CODs since COD 2. COD 4 awesome, COD 5, okay, COD 6, more of the same but okay, COD 7, come on it's boring (I actually traded BO for Battlefield Bad Company 2, best trade of my life), COD 8 I didn't even play it. COD 9 (BO 2), it's exactly the same as the previous ones...

Battlefield 3 kept me playing longer than all CODs together. But I found the lack of more destructible buildings (like in Bad Company 2) disturbing.

Aw, you missed COD 1? That's the best one in the series if you ask me. I'm not sure if there is online anyone still playing, but the Single Player campaign was a real blast.

I'm a fan of CoD, but I'll admit, they don't change a whole lot, and Black Ops 2 was no exception (single player was alright this time though).

I'm actually kind of ashamed to admit I've sunk more hours into Modern Warfare 2 than any other game....a little over a months worth of hours...and I still maintain that it was the peak of CoD Multiplayer.

Black Ops 2 is a lot more balanced overall then either MW3, and Black Ops 1 though...so it's something....
