while free is always a plus mumble is free short of paying for a server (unless you want to set one up yourself in which case it'd all be free) and I did offer to let people use a server me and my community are paying for
mumble apps exist for smartphones just like skype so that's a bit of a moot point

but yeah organic and spur of the moment I guess I can see
I'm perpetually signed onto a mumble server similar to being on skype or steam and the nature of voip actually makes spur of the moment stuff on that seem a tad more organic however that's me

anyway, before anyone claims this is bickering I'm not trying to be pushy or argumentative just pointing out that there are far better options for voip than skype and trying to get the facts out
personal preference is personal preference and people can and will use what they want I just like to advocate for the better software

Well it's simply that when I've had this discussion in the past I've had people defend skype overzealously and ended up sitting here pointing out the things they state that hold no water until some third party gets annoyed and tells me people can use whatever they want at which point in time I reply that I'm well aware and understand but if a point isn't valid I'm going to indicate that since getting the facts straight is the point, rather than what software one chooses to use and since the subject of voip seems of questionable topicality I figured I'd just make my stance clear preemptively

I'm not going to post the IP and password to the mumble NP uses as I dont want to leave that information sitting on a public forum
and the smaller mumble server I use to test things out I rotate the password on sporadically as I'm fairly paranoid and have no set purpose for it yet
however if a group of people want to try it out just to try it or to try it with the intention of also gaming, contact me at some point when I'm not at work (i.e. an hour plus from now) on the forum's chat, by pm, or on steam and I'll either drop the password or tweak it and send you the link as well as provide any technical assistance I can if I'm not overly busy or preoccupied

I play on pc, lack a ps3 and was just commenting due to the whole voip thing as I felt mumble is a better alternative to skype

anyway, I'll most likely be on this site's chat tonight, as I usually am until I get tired of rejoining after being booted for lurking
