Just like Dark Souls, there are many unique moments. while the basicmechanics appear the same (and they kinda are) they really are very different games.Despite a platinum on both, Demons still has enemies that terrify me

They are very similar with control mechanics and such, but the environment and setting within Demon Souls is by far much better than Dark Souls.

It will still be a difficult game for you, while some bosses are kind of to easy other bosses will give you nightmares.

I loved DeS and dreaded it at the same time, just like I do for DkS. I find DkS to be easier though as DeS bosses had some annoying abilities or some WTF!? kind of stages for a fight.

It's mostly the same although the game atmosphere surpasses DkS in every way.

Its harder to understand from some aspects, world tendancies (I'm looking at you ToB), storylines, etc. But the wikis are so developed now that you can have all your questions answered should you need them.

Definitely. Although you will at some point end up giving in to despair and hopelessness. Demon's Souls is without a doubt, a harder game than Dark Souls. Anyone who tells you different is a LIAR. It wasn't until my 53rd try against Flamelurker that I found you could kill him without actually needing to fight him.

Yes, yes you should, to see how From Software had mercy on us when they made Dark Souls.

I'm not sure if you'll see a spike in difficulty like some might say. A lot of people have the impression that Dark Souls is easier, when in fact they played Demon's Souls first.

I've noticed from other people who have asked this question before, that they inevitabely seem to get back on a say something like, "It wasn't as hard as you guys were saying, etc, etc".

There are plenty of difficulty spikes in the game, like Flamelurker, Man Eaters, Allant..but the same could be said for Dark Souls.

Also, you have mana, and mana regeneration. One could argue that alone makes Demon's Souls easier.

Personally overall, I think Demon's Souls is probably harder, but only slightly and only without using a couple boss glitches.

I think it is harder but coming from DkS it will SEEM like the easier game. Plus everyone Thomas dupes and reads wikis now (and then claim it's 'easy' lol).

I would say that Demon's is harder to do everything in it. As for the main storyline, no spoilers but, the bosses on a whole are probably a little easier. I know in NG I had a ton of difficulty with several bosses. In NG+ and beyond, when the character can do a little bit of everything, you can exploit weaknesses and the bosses in Demons' seem to have more significant weaknesses. I can think of two (although one isn't tough to begin with) that the use of magic (I tend toward melee) changed the entire battle from "I hate you guys" to "please, fool." The last boss (again, no spoilers) is not too horrible but probably a little tougher than Gwyn. However, he does have an ability that can make him so intimidating it completely changes the outlook of the fight.

So...how is Demons harder than Dark? Kirk is a punk, Jeremiah is a scrub, Leeroy is a pale shadow of another hero (no spoilers), Mildred is another cheap knock off (sorry forum Mildred), etc. etc.

The phantoms in Demons Souls are what still give me nightmares.

I loaded once recently to give someone some items and I would say that they're pretty close actually. Dark is probably a step or two better.

the graphics are okay, but they will seem kinda clunky compared to Dark Souls. character movement is still pretty smooth though. armour and items don't have as much detail and you don't have as many choices to make as in Dark but there are some diamonds hiding in the rough. i also believe that Demon's also has fewer frame rate drops.

while the play looks similar, the play style is quite different. most weapons have a really sweet R1-R2 combo so don't get used to just spamming the R1, you should learn to alternate your attacks. climbing ladders is painful and there are no sliding or attack options when you are on one. get used to not being able to jump or do a plunging attack, though the level design is such that you won't really miss it that much.

which game is harder? they are both difficult games to get through on a blind play through, but for different reasons. i think Dark gives you more help than Demon's does but the enemies are tougher in Dark. pure black world tendency and the phantoms that come along with that is what really makes Demon's the more difficult of the two, but pure black tendency can be avoided though, as long as you don't die to often. pure white tendency makes most of Demon's easy as pie. pure white is easy to get but hard to maintain though. there are fewer zones in Demon's but you will end up playing through each zone multiple times if you are trying to get everything in one play through. thankfully the zones are much more memorable than any in Dark. also, there is no rusted iron ring in Demon's which will make Blighttown seem like summer camp compared to the Valley of Defilement.

I actually bought a PS3 just to try DES after hundreds of hours in DKS. It's worth it, but the formula is the same so it's not like a totally new experience. You will feel like you are playing a slightly different version of DKS in a gloomier, more gothic setting. Overall I thought DES is a more atmospheric experience, but of course DKS is the spiritual sequel so it has a lot more polish.

All in all it is worth the price, even if you only make two or three play throughs. There is still a decent amount of online players, it's not dead.

As far as difficulty, I can't understand how anyone would think DES is more difficult if you are coming from DKS. I died less than ten times my first blind play through. You can make it harder by changing the world tendency, but that only happens if you are screwing up a lot or specifically trying too.

IMO - No its not worth going back to. I did exactly as you described and I did not enjoy it as much as DKS. I'm not sure why i didnt find it as fun or interesting as DKS. But in my case it was a waste of 30$
