The forest is my favourite place in all of Lordran to grind. Kill the invaders etc. But really. I tried to do the forest hunter covenant like I normally do and I come upon a couple ganking. I'm like, okay, chuck on hornet, let's do this, they then proceed to not hit me, but backstab fish! Really!? You already have the advantage of two on 1, now you need to backstab! Not only that. when he did finally get me, he had hornet's on! As well as his sunlight blade buff! DUDE! HOW MUCH OF AN ADVANTAGE DO YOU NEED!? /rant Your experiences with such noobery?

Re: The forest :/
Forest rocks. Keep it that way. It is savage. Complete warfare. It is not "noobish". It is how the game is played there. As a catbro, run and hide. Go awake the ents in back, drag them to the giant mushrooms or cats. Run around a corner and WoG or FT them. Keep them busy until another catbro shows up. It is much different than the "bow, buff, grass" type of duelling.
If you expect that kind of duelling, then the Forest isn't for you. IMO, that kind of duelling is "noobish" and dishonorable in the forest. "Noobish" because you aren't using everything to your advantage. Dishonorable because it is war. Cat bros vs invading hosts. Not killing them does dishonor to your covenant.
BTW, they BS spam/fish, you counter BS. If they chain BS, parry their attempt. If they summon help, you bring them to your "help" (enemies in the forest), etc. So much more than a straight up duel.

Re: The forest :/
I love the forest. Always have, always will.
I have a very different outlook on the forest. People say its the place for honorless dueling and all out war. I'll agree with that, I do not think it should be treated like a organized duel...however...
I usually host. I have zero problems sending my phantom home for backstabbing a bower. I conduct myself with the same etiquette when dueling in a fight club environment.
Why you ask? Imo, most people are bored of the flavorless bland dueling grounds. They want some variety and also wish the 2vs2 arenas were more active. So, they go to the forest. There are plenty of people there not looking to grief. There are plenty of places to do that outside of the forest. Imo, a majority of the people there are looking for 2vs2 action, which is easily attainable with the right mindset.

Re: The forest :/
As Reim say keep them occupied until a cat bro appears, i recommend WOTG you are going to need it to keep them away from you a very good tactic is that when you are going to cast it unlock the target Turn 360 degrees and then cast WOTG and thats is my advice for you. hope you find it helpful
By the way
The Cat Bros are awesome because every time i invade gankers they always help me and we kill 'em all the times
Cat Bros Rocks

Oh, and have a Stone Greatsword handy too. Nice AoE move that one has. Faster than casting TWoP and lasts longer. My enemy casts that, I use the SGS to counter it.

Re: The forest :/
The only thing that bothers me in the forest is when I manage to kill the host's helper and then the host disconnects instead of fighting me 1 v 1. They will strut, taunt, and gesture like big dogs as they kill you, but when on there own, they cower away. It is just sad.

Good advice from all. I will try this. My normal strategy is if their ganking, chuck on the hornet ring and go to town.

Re: The forest :/
Happens all the time with my Catbro.
Once, I invaded and saw the host running straight at me, while I looked around and saw a Sunbro trying to sneak up on me from the side. So I waited until the Sunbro got close and surprise-backstabbed him, because I already knew how this would have turned out. He died, and the host proceeded to backstab fish the wholllleeee time. He killed me, then did Skyward and Shrug until I left his world.

I can count on one hand and have fingers left over the number of times I have faced someone in the forest NOT ganking as a covenant member. In my experience everyone is a ganker there.

Ayeeeee :pirat:
However there are those ****ing all over the forest. That aint cool either.
The forest is the best place for random and consistent 2 vs 2. As a host, you can semi-control that. The goal of hosting, for me anyway, is to get off a summon and clear the path to Alvina. I leave the ents...
So then to the edge of the wood you go. If you get 1 catbro, dont engage. Period. Sometimes I throw knives and stuff, but nothing overwhelming. Let him engage your phantom.
Sometimes you have 2 catbros before you've even killed the axe bandit. Which is even more fun.
If you pvp for 2 or 3 hours there, you'll get reinvasions which is cool as ****. When you have 3 or 4 cool catbros invading for the night and you get some lucky recurrences, it makes for good times. Most players have the same goal.
Hosting allows you to control the tempo. They will remember you for not jumping. I know the catbros appreciate this style of play. It always seems to show, never fails.
Maybe its all finally coming to an end...

Re: The forest :/
There's nothing wrong with the forest. There are different places for different types of pvp. For example, it's well understood that anything goes in the forest, including ganking and plenty of other cheap tactics. There are other places for honorable dueling, like the burg (via RSS).
Hackers, of course, are a totally different matter.

Interesting fact
The forest is actually a REALLY good place to duel random invasions.
Open Sif's boss door and stand just outside the door.
Wait for someone to invade.
Send them a message inviting them to duel inside the boss room.
As long as you the host stay inside the boss room, other people cannot invade.
