You actually can kill the Hellkite Drake via Melee. It was after I got so fed up with it healing itself when I was shooting it below the bridge that I Zerg Rushed it. Died many times, but oh many was it awesome when I finally struck that lousy bastard down.

Basically, think of it this way.
If you had 1500hp, and a fall takes away 1/10th of your health, you will be left with 1350hp. The fall is made to take away 1/10th of your health, in this example. So, say you had 500hp, you'd lose 50hp, you'd still lose 1/10th of your health regardless of HP, as long as the fall is programmed to do that percentage of damage. At least, I think this may be the case, I have noticed it before.

The fall I tested this on was the one in the Catacombs, from the bit after the first bonfire, where you can jump down from there to Leeroy's sign.

I tested it too, Elite Knight seemed to increase it about 10% of the drop for me, but it was in the Forest so the highest consistent drop I had only did 100 damage.
