Character Facts!
So in an effort to teach the people who see this thread I going to play a random game where I talk about everything about a Touhou character. Who they are is random and you learn about that person.

I started with Embodiment of Scarlet Devil, but I'm starting to lean towards Impreishable Night when it comes to beginners, mainly because of how easy it is compared to the rest.

I won't spoil the gameplay but I will tell about the two main playable characters!
First Reimu Hakurei

Species: Human
Age:?? Perhaps mid-to late-teens
Abilites: Flight, Summoning power of the Gods, Manipulation of Auras, her spiritual power.
Location: Hakurei shrine
Occupation: Shrine Maiden

Reimu is the first main character of the series, having been seen since the first game. She holds the responsibility to maintain her shrine through followers and donations, the first shrine in Gensokyo, keep the Hakurei Barrier intact and solve any disturbance as well as exterminate youkai as past Hakureis have. However Reimu doesn't exterminate youkai rather knock them out when a incident occurs. Reimu powers have grown to be close to godlike since the first game. It was not till the six game did she learn how to fly and use her own spiritual powers to her best. Because she had (there are 4 religions now) the only shrine she is either called on or called herself to handle a disturbance to Gensokyo. Of course this has not changed even with the presence of other religions now as she is the expert of solving incidents.

Reimu has an easygoing, curious, dutiful and optimistic personality. As such many of people in Gensokyo see Reimu as sympathetic and even many of those she fights in the games stay as an enemy to her. This has two effects, one good and one not so. Because she never use her power to exterminate youkai, her shrine has become the local hang out for many of the other characters in the series to visit. Of course as many humans are afraid to be near youkai Reimu's shrine is hardly to never visited by normal humans from the human village, causing a loss of donations.

Marisa Kirisame

Species: Human
Age?? Perhaps the same as Reimu
Abilities: Flight with a broom, Extremely powerful magic, a wielder of the master sark spell.
Location: Kirisame home in the Forest of Magic
Occupation: Magician, Kirisame Magic Shop owner, burglar, part-time youkai hunter(like Reimu, no killing)

Marisa is the second main character of the series having appeared in the second game and all but one game. She and Reimu are long time friends and is also a expert of incidents, though the two are sometimes against each other with incidents. However unlike Reimu who solves incidents as job and duty as a shrine maiden, Marisa does it by getting involved in every incident out of curiosity. Marisa is a known hard worker, wanting to catch up with Reimu through training and developing her magic. This fact makes her a more normal human compared to other humans in the game as Marisa works for her power then being naturally talented(Reimu) or some ability(Sakuya and Sanae). Marisa dresses like the western witch style and her broom may be for show than flight.

Marisa may be considered a stealing hoarder. She collects thing and never throws them away so her home is easily the messiest in Gensokyo, this includes books and items that she may not know are worth fortunes.

Marisa has a straight forward, sometimes disagreeable personality. She may also be a genius in math and is famous for her spell Master spark: a large laser of pure magic that well here:
Marisa's lesson of how to "Spark"

Finally she is the author of the Grimoire of Marisa: A book of her studies on the power of the people she has met, and fought and her own spellcards.

Sakuya lol. She hasn't been in any of the danmaku games since Touhou 9, lol. Needs moar love.

Yukari Yakumo

Species: Youkai (expect a human again? 8))
Age:????? Older than Gensokyo's history. Might be the oldest resident.
Abilities: Manipulation of ALL boundaries and conceptuals. I.e. she can be in France, U.S.A and wherever you all are at any moment. Lose something?
Locations: Somewhere along Gensokyo's boundaries. Might have a house. Has a dimension to herself.
Occupation: Sleeps most of the time.
Family: Ran Yakumo: Shikigami and Chen Yakumo: Ran's Shikigami

Yukari may be the oldest in Gensokyo, but she is the strongest Youkai there. She lives the youkai life of enjoyment and long living. Though she rarely leaves her home, Yukari is well known, and friends with some of Gensokyo's powerful youkai, friend of Reimu and anyone who has a dealing with Gensokyo and our world. Also it was found that she gave herself the name Yukari Yakumo and her original name is unknown, in fact her name may have a meaning to boundaries with double rainbows as a reference and the phrase:violet forms the boundary between the sky and the rainbow.

Yukari is not someone to mess with. Though she sleeps a lot Yukari is a intelligent genius who never uses her full power on anyone, instead toying with them at their level. Out of anyone human, youkai or whatever, Yukari fits the mastermind role has vast insight on what happens in Gensokyo. While she may seem unreliable if Gensokyo is at stake where even Reimu is not enough, Yukari will step in directly and get involved, even if she has to use others to do it. Yukari is a heroine, villain, or whatever fits her needs, even if it is weird. In the Immaterial and Missing Power Yukari actually sings her way to victory in her battles and steals ALL of Gensokyo's wine, sake, and brandy. Somehow this will end the incident? Apparently it worked in her scenario.

A thousand years ago Yukari massed a large army of youkai and invaded the moon (I'll explain it later) and were forced out by the Lunarians and their high grade technology and magic. Since then no youkai has ever tried to expand their territory. Some think Yukari was power-hungry while others believed it was to teach youkai a key lesson: Don't invade anywhere!

When it comes to our world Yukari knows much of the tech we use. Since she controls boundaries, Yukari can leave and return to Gensokyo at will. She is the only one who could tell what and how to use a IPod, and seems to also know how to play a Nintendo GameBoy and DS. Once Marisa Saw Yukari talking into a small-box to Ran Yakumo. It is debatable whether they are using cell phones or walkie-talkies. Due to her vast knowledge of our world it seems Yukari may live here from time to time.
