As of late.. I decided to turn music to 0 and play music from iTunes while playing Dark Souls, seeing as I have a rather good headset. And I gotta say.. the game gets so much more exciting when listening to the Hotline Miami soundtrack. I mean dear god, that music is amazing.

I used to do this thing. Around the time Gears of War first came out. I thought it was just such a violent, mature game. So much, in fact, that I found it hilarious if you played the game to really, really cheesy music. Back then it was Every Time We Touch by Cascada. It made it a lot more amusing, especially chainsawing dudes during the chorus.
I don't do it that much since nothing in Dark Souls at this point is so terrifyingly difficult it makes me want to cry. But its still funny to do now and then.

Lately it's been...
Chili peppers for co-op.
Queens a kind of magic album (the highlander songs) for PvP. 'Don't lose your head' just fits so well with PvP (as do many of the other tracks in this album)
Check out the praise the sun near the end of the song, epic.

I like to put some good metal/hard rock in the background when PVP. If im feeling cool i listen to my Two Steps From Hell playlist. Or DkS thems in 8-bit. They r amazing.

When I was getting summoned for Gaping Dragon, back when the faith requirement for the Sunbros was 50 so you needed to co-op seven times before they'd let you in, I always listened to one track in particular for the final confrontation - the Super Street Fighter 2 Guile's Theme. I never lost a fight.

Smooth songs that help me concentrate
These days it's mostly Michael Franks, and early albums of Supertramp

Mostly, Symphonic or Gothic Metal, gives that epic feel to the game
