How not to learn Japanese properly

Step 1: Take part in a read aloud test in class.
Step 2: The said test involves you reading lines from Kaguya Hime.
Step 3: Instead of properly memorizing and learning hiragana which should have been done ages ago, convert the hiragana into romaji and memorize.
Step 4: Get 100% without even reading.
Step 5: Stay up all night memorizing hiragana, katakana, everything one needs to know in the textbook, etc right before the final exam that's going to come up soon.
Step 6: Forget half of what was memorized a week after the test.
Step 7: Earn a credit.
Step 8: Take level 2 Japanese the following year.

This is what happens for me too in med school.. I end up learning stuff on an exam by exam basis and then forgetting it all..

THERES JUST TOO DAMN MUCH STUFF

This is me through out all of my life. Quite honestly, nobody studies to "learn", just to ace the test.
Although, funny coincidence, Japanese is the only thing in my life that I studied to "learn" and I don't go to school for it.

Foreign langauges are only learned through the use of them.

True, but if you have no one to converse with, you might as well learn the basics. No one can teach you Kana...

How do you even watch that much anime? I watch subbed anime and I only know some colors, honorifics, pronunciation and a few basic word meanings! Most of it was from scanlator editor notes, too.
