Gear up and upgrade

Hey all, I was wondering if any of you all would be as kind as to help me find the right gear for my high dex thief.

As of now I have a +2 Lightning Spear, +5 Iato, +5 Uchigatana, +5 Baldur's Side Sword, +5 Priscilla's Dagger, +5 Pharis Bow, +5 Target Shield, Shadow Set (+1 on all)

I'm fairly new to this game, right now I'm SL 88 and at Anor Londo, going to fight O&S soon. When will I able to truly start upgrading? And what other gears should I keep an eye out for? I know I'd like to have a Dark Set in the future.

did you go to the depths and get the large ember? its next to the first butcher, it allows you to get your weapons to +10.

The great scythe is a fantastic weapon for dex, especially against bosses. You'll find it in the catacombs.

You also may want to try to get one of the silver knights in Anor Londo to drop their sword, it's pretty good for dex. Until you get the Baldur side-sword to +15 it might be a stronger option, too, as it upgrades w/twinkling titanite. I still use it on my level 327 character because it takes buffs and looks too damn cool on fire.

Yeah, I did. I was wondering though, when will I be able to upgrade them to lightning and all that?

Oh, and if you like your Uchigatana you may want to buy a Washing Pole from Shiva.  It's like an Uchigatana that OD'd on steroids and Viagra.

You should be able to upgrade just about anything at this point with the possible exception of fire/chaos weapons if you haven't been to the catacombs yet. You might need to do some Ember hunting to go higher than +5 with your weapons. Check the wiki to be sure but I think the first one you'll want is in the Depths right after you first enter where the butchers are.

As far as weapons go you're already on the right track for dex. The only other dex weapon class you don't have represented in your list are scythes. If you've killed Priscilla and have her soul that will allow you to make the Lifehunt Scythe which is pretty sick if used correctly. There is a "plain" scythe in the catacombs that can be upgraded along any path. These weapons kinda lose the idea of a "thief" though so you may want to stick with what you have.

I highly recommend a good bow for dex builds as they can make annoying places quick and painless. For example.....poison arrows from out of observable range and then go get a sandwich.

I believe you need them to +10 for lightning.

the silver sword +5 does a bit more damage then the balder at +15 with 40 dex ( i think, either that or its very very similar). They can both buffed. The balder looks cooler but the silver sword is more effecitve in PVP in my opinion.

Two handing prscialla's dagger or a buffed painted guardian sword is also very effective (for PVP mind you). The Scythe you make from prascilla's soul is very good against bosses. I'm sure its on par with the +15 great scythe.

Also, you should really give a falchion and scimtar a try as well.

Yeaahhh... I killed Shiva accidentally when killing the ninja bodygaurd to get the ring from him. Worth it. I heard the Washing Pole breaks easily anyways. Plus, the Iato is more commonly used and can get upgraded better. I don't think i want to try and get the chaos blade or w/e it was.

Once you get something to +10 the blacksmith you'll find at Anor Londo can upgrade them to lightning. No ember required.

So, from what i've gathered. Try out scythes and the falchion or scimitar.

On another note, I do have the embers up to anor londo, I think. I have an enchanted one, but the blacksmith near sen's doesn't take it.

What do you all recommend that I upgrade at the current moment? Should I be farming the slime monsters or leaches or whatever?

Griggs will take the magic embers. He's down the elevator, off to the right (down some stairs) at the start of New Londo. Which reminds me of my absolute favorite dex weapon: the Estoc. Go through the gate to the left of the same area and you'll find one on a corpse. Awesome move-set, and like the spear you can R1 attack from behind your shield.

As to what to further upgrade I'd suggest the Baldur side-sword because its R1 attack has sweep and is so quick, and its R2 attack has range, so it's effective in most situations. But really I'd just say upgrade whichever is your favorite first.

I must check this Estoc weapon out, it sounds pretty good.

Other than that, I was wondering what I should be doing with armor. I'm aiming to get the Dark set later on, but what should I be using for now, everyone?

The shadow set is decent. Light armor, and has great resistances. Twinkling titanite upgrades it. You can buy them from the giant blacksmith in anor londo.

also if you don't mind wearing a stupid mask, the mask of the child is great for stamina regain.
