Found a random video of the fight. Pause the video at 34 seconds (should start there). You can clearly see that the fire is not there.

Just a quick thought. He's referenced multiple times as "The Lord of Cinder."

Also, look at the burn that takes place when we light the fire. Imagine, the owner of the ultimate soul (albeit depleted) lighting it and maybe the melted rock is logical

I think in there must have been some kind of firestorm going on, while the first flame was more powerful. Look at the pillars and stuff, there are flags of melted stone and ash to them. These constellations point out they were exposed to a constant horizontal force, like a twister.

The orange light comes from Gwyn himself, like the chosen undead who emits light in the dark.

You can clearly see that when Gwyn jumps back into a wall, the light is dimmed (like when the chosen undead rolls)

Both are correct. First their armor was charred black from the fight with the Demons, but they were otherwise ok. Then, afterward, they went to accompany Gwyn when he linked the fire. The resulting explosion burned the Knights. Their disembodies spirits were trapped within their armor.

Black Knight Armor, Black Knight Shield.

The whole Gwyn leaving part of his soul behind theory makes sense to me, but he's still pretty tough. If that's just a fraction of the power of a Lord Soul, then why isn't Nito ridiculously strong? He has a whole Lord Soul.

Check the Lord Soul description for Nito. Apparently the power of Nito's soul was offered to death. Not too sure what it means, but there you go.

Perhaps Nito have some kind of bargain with Death that allows them to live? Or maybe the soul's power is drained ever so slightly when someone/thing dies.
