Yes.
1st: It can be difficult to get a match. This is the main reason.
2nd: You usually get stuck with the same player unless you switch roles, switch maps, or block.
3rd: People at the arena are ruder then the other people.

Thanks for letting me know. That's kinda disappointing though since I have faced only gankers and general a-holes since I started playing again. I thought the arena would put an end to all that :|

I was thinking of buying the DLC just for the Dark magic and the arena. But after reading all about how horrid the arena was......I'll just be content to watch Let's Plays of the DLC.

^ Buy the DLC. The Arena isn't the only thing new. It adds Dark Magic, and it's good because it has AoE sorcery. It also adds new, powerful weapons. It has new bosses. Artorias, a new boss, is now officially the most badass boss in the game. The DLC is harder then the origional game.

I'd still recommend buying DLC it's worth it even if you don't like the arena. Also I really don't play in the Arena because I normally have to wait for at least 15 to 20 minutes before I can get a game, which normally consists of me punishing the host for BS fishing instead of fighting.
