That would depend on how you define mainstream.

Mainstream would mean that the majority have knowledge that it exists. So Neon Genesis, Dragonball Z, Death Note, Cowboy Bebop, etc.

That's as mainstream as anime gets.
Also hasn't anime and cartoon animation always been defined by the art style?
Anime with an eastern art style and cartoon with a western art style.

I would think the bottom would be anime and the top would be cartoon but with my limited grasp on this subject I could be wrong.

The top one is Shin Chan, and a Japanese Anime. The middle one is Code Lyoko, a French Cartoon. The bottom one is Reign the Conqueror, a Japanese Anime.
EDIT: Oh the Code Lyoko one got removed, probably for being too big.

Again showing my limited amount of knowledge on the subject. Also I never saw a middle image but I do know what Code Lyoko is.

I could not see the middle one so I guess I was right with the top and bottom ones.
My turn! Which one is this?

I'd have to go with anime if I were to take a shot in the dark, somehow it reminds me of the Japanese Power Puff Girls and Hi Hi Puffy AmiYumi.

And Tolvo has it. This one is called, and I am not joking here, Panty and Stocking with Garterbelt. Basically it was drawn in a semi-cartoon form and is a parody of Christianity and American adult humor. Those two are supposed to be angels but got kicked out of heaven for one being a well-controlled sex-maniac with standards while the other is a sweet-tooth glutton. You can't anymore adult than this without showing sex scenes here.

My friend showed me the parts of the show.....
Let's just say it's filled with tons of "plot"

The English version is so better than the Japanese version in terms of speech with the rest being the same. Funny as hell and it actually has a plot and a deep episode here and a really bad*** fight scene in another.

We need more american cartoons with serious plot and character development.
Seriously what happened to Batman?
Good plot twist? Check
Good animation? Check
Good villian and character? Check
Seriously, why don't they just make more mature shows like this.

I'd personally define anime as so:
1. It's a Japanese production.
2. The art style is very specific(manga-esque would be the closest I can come up with)
As with a cartoon being targeted towards children, Matt Groening would like a word with you.

I remember seeing that and think F*** this is brutal for a kids show the only thing that could make it better is if Mark Hamil was the voice for JokerResIsBestStat wrote:We need more american cartoons with serious plot and character development.
