Agreed Baal. Elementals may be first thought when you see 50-55 but you can extract serviceable AR at that ledge. And for the speed at which you can make it, it's a lot of fun to try something new. It's not min max heaven since I have to swallow midroll but it's certainly not handcuffing.

I'm interested in taking part, but I'm quite the newb (both here on the forums and with pvp) and so I have a few questions.
Is the host summoning two red phantoms and the phantoms fight each other, or are the hosts fighting a single phantom or both? I haven't really focused on pvp until very recently, and have never done any kind of tournament, so I'm trying to imagine how all that works.
If I don't have chat available while I am playing will that be detrimental to my ability to participate? My xbox isn't near my computer.
Any other info or tips you can offer this humble newb is greatly appreciated

The event will take place with a list of designated hosts who will summon your red soul sign to take part in the fight. The host doesn't fight at all.
There will be a forum chat thing available during the fight. But no, it shouldn't be too detrimental since no one will participating in the event will attack you without you being ready, and you can still communicate through gestures and short messages if necessary.

No. That's what the hosts will (hopefully) provide you with in between matches. Here's a REALLY REALLY important tip: Make sure you have MOUNTAINS of humanity on you. I only had 10 during the last event I was in, but I ran out and lost because I had to fight with a fraction of my HP left. I went nearly 30 consecutive wins before that happened, and could've been unbeatable for the entire night if I didn't run out.
