The "let it out" thread.
Graves' disease. That's the bug-eye disease, right?

yup. That's part of it. That was the tip off for them to test me too. My eyes were going crazy. One gets all droopy and the other gets really wide

Oh god, that does not sound nice at all. Hope you can get it treated as soon as possible.

It sucks when you're not being treated, but you're fine once you are. My mom's got too. It's hereditary

Good that they finally found out what it is. It's a pretty manageable condition, so hopefully they'll get you on some meds that can help dull the symptoms for you, then maybe it won't be too much of an issue for you in the future.
Disappointing they took long as they did to find what was wrong if your mother had history of it though.. That's pretty shocking lack of basic skills :|

I've inherited a syndrome and hypermobility.
They both piss me off majorly, but a drooping eye would irritate me to no end.

My confidence in the New York medical system is pretty shaken, and any confidence I had in my doctor is out the window. I've been sick all semester. It started around February. I've been suffering for almost 4 months. It's crazy. My GPA is dropping from a 3.8 to a 3.2 because I haven't been able to focus all semester. The treatment shouldn't be a big deal, it's just aggravating that I've been dealing with it for so long now.

Well half of that it up to the student. If you're out of high school and not educated it's nobody elses fault

Re: The "let it out" thread.
No, no. Education is pretty poopy right now.
Seriously, I go into a COLLEGE course about ethics, and he gives us this giant speech of "At the beginning of this semester, you know what to think. At the end of this semester, you will know HOW to think". Cue an entire semester of crazy theories and comparing certain arguments to Nazi's thoughts......
He's a nice guy, but didn't teach me jack ****....
I'm glad you found out what it was, at least. And that it has a cure, because let me tell you it sucks when they don't actually have a cure for what's ailing you

Plastic, I hear ya on the shaken confidence. Buffalo and Rochester are supposed to be pretty dang good medically (Buffalo in particular) and it still depends on which doctor you draw. Our family uses an NP that is awesome but that's not the norm. Anyway, glad to hear you're on the path to feeling better. Fingers crossed for ya!

It still all depends on where you go and what you want out of it. I go to a small state school, that's relatively inexpensive, and I'm really happy with my education, because I knew what I wanted and I went out and got it. I researched professors and classes, and figured out exactly what I wanted, and what they didn't offer that I wanted I took at different schools. You have to know what you want and be devoted to getting it or you won't at any school. People leave ivy league schools with nothing because they're lazy and indecisive. Depending on the level of the course, a lot of teachers and going to teach you theory because you need to learn how to think well both critically and abstractly. It doesn't sound like something that would be hard to do, but when you're going into a pretty abstract field you need it. You just have to understand what they're really teaching you to apply in order to use it. If you were taking eithics as a philosophy course theories and perspective are exactly what the course would be. What would you expect philosophy to be? If you want strictly applied knowledge go to a vocational school

Re: The "let it out" thread.
I can't believe I hear horror stories about stuff like this in the US- it's private, therefore shouldn't medical care be better? :|
Hopefully once the whole NHS copy stuff is brought in by you guys everything can then be more tightly regulated by your government, and standards will skyrocket.
Slarg- I think there's an issue to do with certain subjects. Ethics I find very interesting and there's a side of it in Med, but as a degree on it's own (this applies to philosophy as well), I dunno how you could fill your time. Subjects like that you need to read a lot, rather than get lectures...
In my opinion subjects like History, English, Philosophy.. i.e humanities in general should just be more open-uni type things, where you pay less fees but get same degree, after all it's ridiculous when you think about science students and humanities students paying the same, the contact time and resources used simply ain't comparable.

Privatisation isn't inherently bad, but privatisation without much regulation means doctors can get away with cutting corners unfortunately.Serious_Much wrote:I can't believe I hear horror stories about stuff like this in the US- it's private, therefore shouldn't medical care be better? :|

Like I said, when the US converts fully to public healthcare, it'll be much, much better for you guys, tighter regulation and no more horrible bills... It's just the waiting lists and lack of available staff that get you then

Re: The "let it out" thread.
Ahaha...Yeah I got a C that needs to be a B or above but that means passing a EOC that no one does good on. I fear that all my grades are going to drop to Ds or Cs because of them in the summer. My hair is thinning now. They stress all the importance of passing because apparently it is wise to study everything for a test that is the real definition of the word random. Example my U.S.A. history class did not go into much detail on the Ku Klux Klan and I end up having many questions about them.

Re: The "let it out" thread.
The school system in England is slightly more efficient.
Since there is no minimum requirement of a B, you can just reach what is expected of you, and you're fine. Just get the right qualifications, don't do too bad, and you're sorted.
Guess I should have said easier.

This isn't a joke Renegade I am flipping out from the stress! They are all worth 30% of my whole grade! A lot is at risk here.

I'm not really sure what I could do to actually help that issue.
Guess I might as well be blunt and say I can do nothing to help that. I have no experience with U.S education.

Re: The "let it out" thread.
The thing about private health care is that it is much better, if you have a ton of money to throw at the best doctors in the best institutions in the state. Great for rich people, and people willing to auction off their posessions to get the good care.
If you don't have that money though, its quality varies wildly.

Also mine decides whether or not I pass my math class at all, and I have to make a really high grade on it to bring it up to a B because my parents think that unless I get A/B then I'm not good enough of a son.

Re: The "let it out" thread.
from what I understand its very hard to teach classes because the state tests are random and as difficult as possible so it really seems that the government is trying to cause all young adults high levels of stress
