Numbers in bracket

Hi, what do these numbers mean?

Look at the image.

Those are your defense numbers if you were not wearing any armor. They are your defenses that you  have from Humanity and your level.

That is "innate defense", which is how much defense you'd have without wearing any gear.
The reason this number is noted instead of just hidden is because the ghosts in new londo ignore armor.

I would guess it was found out from testing. I noticed this when I first started playing that they did quite a bit more damage when I was not cursed. They do not ignore your defenses though(pretty sure) if you are cursed. It was more obvious for me though because I always wore heavy armor on my first playthrough.

I would guess it was found out from testing. I noticed this when I first started playing that they did quite a bit more damage when I was not cursed. I'm not talking about that, i knew that ghosts ignored armor, i'm talking about the fact that the bracketed numbers are innate defense.

Go to Mugen Monkey, make a build, look at the bracketed numbers, take off all your armor, and those bracketed numbers will be your defense. I figured it out when I got curious about it one day.
