Absolutely false. Sony can just run a basic check of what's on the system when you sign in online, and From can easily filter certain data to catch hackers. Please stop making excuses for them.
DS is a great game and it could be much better if there were consequences for cheating, consistently applied.

The problem is that a lot of people learn modding for build creating, but the spread of knowledge reaches the 12 year olds who go "waahhh this game is too hard I'll just hack lol" and that explains the the guy with a BKGA in full DW flipping forever. Lvl 1-15 pvp is dead. I invaded on my lvl 1 DW and my first invasion was a guy with infinite hp, greatsword of artorias, probably max stats, and protector name on just standing there. Why?

When I was talking about excuses, I meant it in reference to "there's no way to catch these hackers unless people report". Most hacking can be auto-detected, especially if one thing becomes particularly prevalent. This is the best method, because reports are not reliable:
1. I've been mistaken for the hacker in a 2v2 or 1v2 a few times, when it was the 3rd player. I'm sure this isn't an isolated incident.
2. People getting flattened by mechanics they don't understand could easily consider their opponent to be hacking. Think something like camo + RTSR + crystal soul spear, which will 1-shot a lot of builds. A random person may not be able to differentiate such from, say, "ancient pulse", since both kill them instantly.
3. People could report out of simple anger.
This means that manual bans based on reports have to be done carefully, whereas detected auto-bans will sift the majority of the nonsense immediately. Such a system is absolutely critical to the longevity of a game, otherwise you wind up with situations like CoD modern warfare on the xbox, where you'd have trouble finding a lobby that *isn't* hacked on any consistent basis these days.

Hackers are a pain, and their reasons for doing it are unbeknownst to me. How anyone gets satisfaction out of an unloseable fight is beyond most of us. But despite beliefs, Xbox isn't against banning profiles, its the people who instead of hitting the file complaint button, send the hacker on his way with a few angry words who are to blame. If everyone did that no one would ever get banned and as such don't.
At least on Xbox the ban system for tampering is based on feedback. They obiviously aren't going to scan every system as it connects, that would be silly, and tedious. But they also cannot immediately scan every person who had a complaint filed, as misconception causes quiet a few people to hit the button when really it was a simple miss, a lack of understanding what happened, or even the infamous lag. As such they only observe the contents of your Xbox when a certain number of complaints have been filed. So in truth its people saying hitting that button is pointless, who convince others it's pointless, that effectively make it pointless.

I have watched a youtuber call out Microsoft and it's failure of an anti-cheating system directly. He captured direct proof of footage from hackers, got them into xbox parties, talked to them and they even explained (poorly) why they hacked. He filed a complaint on them, and so did a fair amount of his large sub base. He's done this a long time.
Months later, he went through the people he reported to MS, and the only one who still didn't have their account was the little kid of some mom he trolled...and in that case it was the sensible mother and not microsoft that took away the kid's account.
I have had a person denial of service flood me, tell me he was going to steal money from me, and deliberately delay a game so that he could get the information he needed over ISP. I didn't believe him, but just to be safe I changed my passwords and associated my bank accounts with an email that I've never touched since. My account showed an attempted transaction shortly after the time this person online threatened me, and despite reporting him through xbox's report feature (tampering, communication) and describing this situation to xbox support staff in writing, this criminal still had his account up and running online weeks later.
The kicker is that xbox live support staff insisted that his attempted theft was impossible, even against my evidence that it happened. "If he did it, we would have known" BULL ****ing ****. Sorry to get a smidge personal here, but you're essentially spreading an urban legend, and a flagrant lie. I have witnessed, and later experienced firsthand, that MS doesn't give a flying **** about cheaters or apparently, even criminals who use their service in ways that violate terms of service and the law.
There are hackers still dotting the madden top 100 who IP boot people, score 5 points per game (total), and have 100+ and 0 records. Flagrant usage of denial service attacks, a federal crime, with massed reports. No bans. Zilch.
Do you really think little kids with infinite HP who use gestures after 1-shotting you with crystal swords don't get reported a couple dozen times? Really?
No sell. I understand you're trying to be helpful to the community, but misinformation is the opposite. Xbox almost never bans known/confirmed hackers. Possibly, it's because people found a way around it (techniques I'd rather not discuss in detail anywhere such human filth might come across it in a web search), but the fact of the matter is that hackers and the rare criminal are not touched.
Worst part of all is, I can report these scrublets for tampering, avoid them, and the game will still force me to invade them.

I don't know about that. I mean I'm sure I've gotten tons of complaints, not because I hack but because I was part of the first wave of CMW falchions (hey I thought I was being original this was like a year ago!). Anyways I got close to the top 100 in the book of the guilty without any hacks, but I got so much hate for that build. People called me everything from n----- to a--hole. Long story short, the better you do in Dark Souls the more your rep goes down (pointless as I have 5 stars despite overwhelming negativity). I assume that people also report me, some people blatantly tell me that they're reporting me. One guys claimed that my build was impossible despite me explaining it to him in detail. He just said I was a hacker and I didn't know anything about the game
Ugh I'm rambling! What I'm trying to say is that you need a huge amount of complaints before someone actually has any action taken against them. Even then, it's pretty easy to get over a ban.

One thing you don't get, are mushrooms and divine blessings. Mega mule doesn't break the game one bit. It simply saves hours upon hours of gameplay because you can make whatever build you want in 10 minutes.
I don't see the problem with people using mega mule, as long as they have earned their stripes and learned the hardships of Dark Souls before getting the mega mule. Now, a new guy to the game and getting mega mule is a whole different story because they won't have any idea about the struggle if they can make an awesome build right away.
Mega mule doesn't bother me, but people further hacking the save file does, obviously.
