Re: Dragons Dogma Dark Arisen
I started playing and I got to that one fight against the tentacles, and I fought it was a puzzle fight, so I kept retrying thinking I was stupid or something. So the pawns tell that you can always run away, except when you're actually supposed to run away?

My pawns told me to run, but I didn't really see the point.

@Plastic
Asalam and his services have moved to the Pawn Guild. You'll find him behind the bench across from the entrance. Also, Black Cat moved to the backyard of the tavern where you get quests and if you wait a bit, Fournival makes his rounds around there, so you can buy Periapts.
If you walked to Gran Soren instead of warping, you perhaps had the pleasure to fight Gorechimera, Grimgoblins, Hellhounds, Sirens and a Wyvern. Which is, regretably, the worst the game can throw at you.
@Soul
You have to run. Those tentacles belong to a enemy called Evil Eye. You will be able to defeat it later on, but right now, there's no way to attack it's main body and so you have to run away from the Everfall.

Re: Dragons Dogma Dark Arisen
Absolom moves into the Pawn Guild building post-game.
The grimgoblins (post-game darkness goblins) deal heavy damage and have stun resistance/poise of F@#%. Hellhounds are NASTY, with their speed, damage and speed. (hard to hit) Snakebite, if you're an assassin, auto-stuns them, inflicts poison AND deals good damage; it's their bane.
For bosses, I've found the mystic knight combo great cannon+full moon slash+wyrmking's ring and the assassin combo hundred kisses+gale harness+staredown. I have yet to find anything else that compare to these, as the sorcerer spells don't work well on all bosses. I want to add in liquid vim and invisibility to that assassin one sometime.
By the way, does anyone else find good healing pawns to be the most difficult to find?
And for some reason, my pawns only use stamina curatives, never hp or status ones-even though they never run out of stamina. For tools, they only use lanterns, oil and pickaxes, even though they never run out of oil. They also never use things like arrow item,

Yeah, I had to look that up though, I thought it was a puzzle boss that required me to do something with the light shining out of the ground.Sentiel wrote:@Plastic

Re: Dragons Dogma Dark Arisen
and I've heard others say otherwise. Is there something weird with my game?
Also, I don't have the Dark Arisen expansion; are the new skills and/or gear comparable to the already present skills at high level and everfall and ur-dragon gear?

@Acarnatia
Make your pawns primary inclination Utilitariam and secondary Medicant. That way, the pawn will focus on using curatives and buffs, but will avoid fighting. Always do the stuff you want your pawn to do yourself for some time and the pawn will mimic you after a while.
For example, High Bolide summons 10 meteors, while Grand Bolide summons 15 and all have higher damage. However, these skills are gained from rings, which are, just like the rest of DLC gear gained by random.
Dark Arisen brings the Bitterblack Isle with third tier of most skills, which are godly powerful and new gear, which makes Ur stuff look like child toys. It is needed, because the DLC area is very Souls-like and is pretty difficult at first few runs. Especially if you don't go there with maxed out toons and play on Hard Mode. It was REALLY entertaining for the first two times I went there and reminded me of Souls a lot. It also has a NG+ mechanic, which makes the place more difficult with each time you clear it up to five times, I believe.

The most vicious enemies appear only after you clear it for the first time. Even so, the place is HUGE and the deeper you go, the stronger enemies you face. Not to mention special enemies that spawn after you kill a certain number of regular enemies.Soul of Stray Demon wrote:Huh, I tried bitter black isle pretty early on, and it seemed easy, but I only went in the first room. On the second run, you will meet new types of dragons as well.
You will inevitably run into two very different enemies than what you're used to. You will see how puny your current build is when you try to fight them.
- Spoiler:
- Death and Condemned Gorecyclops.

Re: Dragons Dogma Dark Arisen
Death is very passive and has only one real attack, but when it's scythe goes down, you go with it. There is absolutely no way to survive it and you will have to use a Wakestone. Also, it instakills your pawns and by that I mean having to re-summon them from Riftstone. No revivals.Soul of Stray Demon wrote:Oh I saw death, but he didn't do anything though. He just disappeared.
I'm not sure if it's defence, or HP, but Death is second only to online Ur-Dragon when it comes to HP. You can't cling onto it and meleeing can be hard when it starts to float around.

I haven't found much reason for clinging though, all it does is cause them to throw me off. I'm sure there's a reason though.

If the enemy has a certain weakspot, like a Cyclop's eye, clinging onto it is a good way to quickly kill the enemy. It's also the best way to kill Dragonkin.Soul of Stray Demon wrote:I haven't found much reason for clinging though, all it does is cause them to throw me off. I'm sure there's a reason though.
Dagger classes have a Kiss skills, which do tremendous damage when clinging onto an enemy. It's the number one most OP thing in the whole game.

Oh cool then, now I actually have a reason to climb.
And it's great, because I love the daggers, means I don't have to use a shield, so hard to do it, I can't block and attack at the same time?

Re: Dragons Dogma Dark Arisen
There's a skill that allows you to do multiple stabs while keeping your guard up, but the damage is low and it eats through stamina quickly. Daggers are better than shields imho, because they allow you to roll, which works similarly to Souls. Also, Assassin can have daggers and shields at the same time. It looks stupid, but works well.

Re: Dragons Dogma Dark Arisen
Yup, that's exactly what I did. The world being all transformed as it was I figured that I might as well hoof it and check things out. I think so far the most dangerous things I've faced are large enemies in high up places. I definitely got killed fighting the golem at the top of Moonsbit Pass, and the cyclops on the high road that leads out to Heavenspeak Fort the first time I went out there. The new enemies are certainly more difficult than the normal stuff though. The combinations of Grimgoblins and Hellhounds, or Succibi and Hellounds are both pretty annoying. The whole getting knocked down over and over thing is irritating. It's actually the first time I'm using my shield as an MK. Demonswrath has been more useful/fun to use too.Sentiel wrote:@Plastic

Are Garms a DLC thing? I'm not sure if I'm going to get the DLC yet or not. I have so many other games I want to be playing after this, still chipping away at my Dark Souls back log, I think I might play some other stuff first and then do a second playthrough with the DLC when I pick it back up. Not sure yet. Depends on whether or not I'm still working on this playthrough when I get money to buy the DLC, which is probably going to happen next week.

Re: Dragons Dogma Dark Arisen
Post game is pretty harsh in some ways. I just finished a quest, and it immediately dumped me into the Everfall, then into a boss fight with something I was hardly damaging at all. This big floating tentacley thing. It killed all my pawns almost immediately and I decided to teleport out. It hasn't let me rest in quite awhile either

Re: Dragons Dogma Dark Arisen
Hellhounds have s funny weakness I mentioned earlier. Throw a Flask of Water on them. It will stun them. Do it a few times to teach it to your pawns with their nearly perfect AI aim and they'll do it for you (requires Utilitarian).
Garms are super easy, because they're huge and you can cling them. They also lack the long range attack of Hellhounds. On the other hand, Garms do a lot more damage and can poison you. Either way, just jump on their head and hack away and you're safe.
The tentacle hentai thing is called Evil Eye. You have to either cut off it's tentacles, or wait for it to charge up it's big attack (it starts glowing red). Only then it's eye is exposed and you can attack it. Until then, it is protected by a force field you can't get through no matter what you do. Be carefull when it teleports, it may try to eat you, which deals a lot of damage. Other than that, it's an easy enemy if you keep moving around a lot.
