Iaito, slash is easier to dead-angle with in PvP and more useful for PvE because of power. Iaito also has slightly longer reach, although you'd never see the difference in an actual battle.

Re: Uchigatana or Iaito?
I prefer the Uchi because of the Thrust attack. The Iaito's slash looks cooler, but I've found the range of the Uchi's thrust to be more useful and damaging.
It's also easier to get, has a slightly higher AR for the same stats, and doesn't need as much dex if you wish to follow the elemental route.

Re: Uchigatana or Iaito?
I personally like the Iaito more, They are both good weapons, they have the same reach, and the same damage.
The only real difference is that the Iaito has a slash R2 that is crazy fast and has more of a area of damage than the uchi thrust.
Although some people have used the leo ring with the uchi thrust which is actually pretty smart.

Re: Uchigatana or Iaito?
I personally like both, but tend to use the Uchi more in PvE (thrust attacks important) and the Iiato more in PvP (2hr2 range and DA capability) Though because of the requirements I find myself using elemental Uchi's much more often than Iiatos

Re: Uchigatana or Iaito?
I prefer both but in an actual choice I like the Laito over the Uchigatana. Mostly because of how efficient it is when you 2hr2 it to against strength builds.

I am pretty sure the Iaito is a little bit longer. But anyway just go for the Chaos Blade.

Chaos is good but the R2's are painfully slow. As for uchi\iaito, the iaito just shades it for me.

Re: Uchigatana or Iaito?
I like the chaos blade the best for the awesome moveset and the aesthetics, AR wise it's actually pretty similar in my experience to the others (fully upgraded naturally)
When I feel like using a buff build, I use the Iato, because of the move set too.
How do you dead angle with the Iato though?

Iaito for a dex build. Hands down my favorite katana. Don't listen to all the Chaos Blade hype, lol.

Re: Uchigatana or Iaito?
I really dig the Chaos blade, it's a shame the R2's are Godawful though.
Anyhow, the Iaito is the same length as the Uchi, it just sits in the hand a little different which gives it a tad (like a bees d***) more reach, I can't see it having any noticeable effect in reality.
The Chaos Blade is a decent bit longer though, I don't have a good comparison shot of it, however have this cool one instead.

Re: Uchigatana or Iaito?
The Iaito's R2 is REALLY slow. I haven't been hit by it in I don't know how long. You can see it coming a mile away, and I'd be hard pressed to find anyone that can dead angle a fast roller with any consistent basis.
Uchi is much better for pvp imo.
***edit***
And if you "whiff" the Iaito R2,you'll be backstabbed by anyone with a decent amount of skill.

Re: Uchigatana or Iaito?
I use both and menu switch between them because they're so hard to tell apart that the different strong attacks catch people off guard whenever you use them intelligently.

Re: Uchigatana or Iaito?
I prefer the Iaito.
The 1H R2 is faster, and has a wider range than Uchi's poke, so it's harder to dodge, I don't know how many people I've caught in the middle of a roll with Iaito's slash. Uchi's poke can be used to an extent but it's not as useful imo. And both of the R2s are incredibly delayed and slow so dodging both of them is incredibly easy
In short, Uchi will have slightly more damage, while Iaito will have sligtly better R2s, if you R1 spam a lot then take the Uchi, if you mix your playstyle up with practical R2s take the Iaito.

No it doesn't.TooLeet wrote:The chaos blade needs more recognition.
Both Washing Pole and Chaos Blade are popular enough in PvP.

Most dex builds you see being posted are either about the Uchi or Iato. My point was, people don't think about the Chaos Blade. It is definitely an underrated weapon in PvP. And the community agreed because there was a thread not too long ago titled "Most underrated weapons in PvP."
I rarely run into people using Washing Poles or Chaos Blades.

Every katana flipper I see has Chaos Blade or Washing Pole.
I can't remember the last time I saw an Iaito.

Re: Uchigatana or Iaito?
The PS3 version has more Iaito/Uchi users because the slight extra lag means that they are much more effective than the CB/WP. Uchi and Iaito are more popular on PS3, although I still see Washing Poles all the time... but I'm fairly sure the last time I saw a Chaos Blade was when I fought Billy, and that was a LONG time ago.TooLeet wrote:Well, that's not the case on Ps3.
