I don't really care about which one is better to use, I just love the uchi's two-hand r2.

Re: Uchigatana or Iaito?
Most of the time, I use Uchi- i like the range of the R2.
However on my newest build I've been using the iaito.. and it's R2 is kickass, especially the 1H version. Pretty short windup, decent range and somehow it dodges attacks occasionally when using it.

You'd think with extra lag, the longer reach of the Washing Pole would make it more common.
Really the only time i see a WP is when someone is DmB or SnB buffing it. Those guys are always fun lol.

Heh, I guess technically? I don't love the Iaito or the Uchi, and when I did I used the Iaito...but recently I find the thrust attack to just be way better, if you can land it. People often forget that it deals piercing damage and not slashing damage, too, which makes a difference in relation to enemy defenses.
I don't particularly care for any Katanas, but I love building Samurai characters, so obviously I end up using them. I like the Washing Pole mostly just because it is the one that looks noticeably different.

That would be me. But I buff everything, even with Charcoal Pine Resin, if nothing else.

Only problem with people who use powerful buffs, is they tend to spam in an attempt to kill people as quickly as possible. A nice little parry takes care of that.

Yup. And Falchions. It's more efficient with a DMB/SNB, to play as you normally would instead of R1 spamming. People must still not understand that.
Earlier i faced a SNB Uchi and i parried the guy 3 times in the same match. I literally didn't hit him with any other damage besides the ripostes. I even got some hate mail out of it.

Ya, I changed my mind, Washing Pole with a buff for sure. The phantom damage on that is 10x's worse than the Dragon Slayer Spear.
It even rivals Crystal Soul Spear's phantom damage.
And I still cant understand the Iaito hype, I can see the R2's from a mile away....maybe I need to revisit the weapon or something.

I don't even try r2's with katana's.
Maybe once and a blue moon after a knock down but that's about it.

Okay, that's what I was thinking. I trust your judgment. I thought I was going crazy or something.
No offense to anyone who likes the Iaito's R2s...they are stylish as he||.

Far too slow for me to use fighting these backstab crazy vultures. Unless i'm 100% confident, i won't use it.
And especially because i don't use anything besides the Chaos Blade when it comes to katana's, and those r2's are just not viable at all.

Re: Uchigatana or Iaito?
Iiato's 2hr2 is good for a few things. As a wake up attack after a knock down, since you can aim it to DA it'll either hit or they'll roll, from my experience there is no way for them to punish you if you don't do anything after the r2 and just wait. Another is punish parry attempts, the 2h version can work if you think they'll parry when you feign a running attack and the 1h version works just fine while R1ing in their face.
It's not like the BSS where R2 is your bread and butter. It's more like the DGA where the R2 is a good mix up tool and an option to be tricky

Yeah, that's why i mentioned after a knock down. But katana r2's are definitely something if used at the wrong time can get you in trouble. But like i said, i don't really touch anything anymore besides the Chaos Blade. I use an Iaito with my faith build but i don't even touch that build anymore.

Re: Uchigatana or Iaito?
Why the heck would you want to use a Katana, they are overrated and overused.
If you want a Dex weapon that takes skill to use, try any curved sword except the Banana Sword (Gold Tracer).

Re: Uchigatana or Iaito?
Overused yes, overrated, I don't see how. They're quick, deal the damage of the faster strength weapons, deal decent poise damage (very easy to get a stunlock since the DWGR nerf), weight SFA, and scale well with the stat that also increases pyro/magic cast speed. Oh they also have bleed just because they weren't powerful enough already.
I do agree though that it takes a bit more skill to use the larger curved swords, not so much the smaller ones (Falchion, Scimitar), and yeah, definitely not the Gold Tracer.

I believe the topic was "Uchi or Iaito" not "I want a dex weapon that takes skill to use."

I prefer uchi over latio over personal references and all weapons take skill to use depending on how u use the weapon.

I've found Iaito's R2s to be great at catching someone in the middle of a roll, and it combos pretty well.Animaaal wrote:Ya, I changed my mind, Washing Pole with a buff for sure. The phantom damage on that is 10x's worse than the Dragon Slayer Spear.

Refer to this video, it shows what Iaito R2s are capable of.
