Secret passage in the cathedral

The walk through says there's a secret passage behind the fire place in the cathedral past the spiral stair case. It says to hit the back to reveal the secret passage, but I can't figure out how to get it to work. I swung at it all over and shot arrows at it. I even tried lighting the fire with pyromancy. Any ideas???

The quickest way is to simply kill Gwynevere and bring Anor Londo to it's true state of being. The only thing I will worn is that there are enemies that disappear once you do this and the firekeeper on the other side of Anor Londo will become aggressive.

You can also grab the Darkmoon Seance Ring from the catacombs and equip it by the bonfire too. Here's a page that can help with the ring's location.

Not sure if this post is still up but it disappeared from my screen: you are talking about the statue by the first bonfire where you can kill Gwendolyn. I'm talking about a room in the cathedral. Behind the stair case on the left. There's a fireplace that the walkthrough says to hit the back of to open up a secret passage that leads to chests. I can't get the fireplace open so I was wondering if anyone knows how to make it work as the walkthrough is very vague.

Ah that area. Well it's a little hard to explain, but I can link you to this video. It goes into detail on how to get to the chests in the room guarded by the wall.

Ah, that might explain a bit. Regardless, glad you got through the illusionary wall the armor you get is very rewarding if you like heavy armor.
