Leo Ring Build

Guys, I did a build to use the leo ring, but I'm having a hard time to take advantage of it, even in situations that it should work (Using thrust weapon physical with enemy attacking)

I'm starting to think that the extra damage I'm having with arrows are for hits to the head and not the ring.

I use Ricard Rapier +15 and Avelyn +15

It's about figuring out the timing really. This video might give you a better idea of what is an isn't wrong or right.

especially avelyn is a bad idea, most likely only one of the 3 bolts will get the bonus as the counterhit state is only a brief moment. best results will be a loadout on the classic pure dex build (f.e. http://mmdks.com/41fy )
or some obscure specialized build like http://mmdks.com/4due or http://mmdks.com/4dug (R2)
as you can see either have a quick weapon you can safely confirm you counterhits with (spear) or try to maximize the base dmg (2hR1 ch with the bkh + leo ring should score around 850dmg on the average opponent, same for the gravelord swords R2)

I have a build that uses Leo with Ricard's Rapier and the results are GREAT! I have learned the timing for Leo counters against most of the weapons when using Ricard's Rapier, but I've noticed that the great swords are the hardest (at least with 0 poise) so beware of those

But the 3 arrows of Avelyn hit almost in the same time !!!

I think that the window of counter is bigger than 1 arrow time. There no weapon in game is faster than an arrow. Well, I´ll test this tonight.

Let's see,

Avelyn +15 with Heavy Bolt = 293
Avelyn Lightning +5 with Lightning Bolt = 389

293 + 40% = 410

410 - 389 = 21

It seems to me that the advantage of 40% more damage is low compared to electric damage, especially considering that the counter is rare and does not happen all the time.

What do you think?

Leo + BSS 2H R2 can do over 800 damage. It is insane.

Yesterday I tested numerous times using the Leo Ring and I'm almost finding that the ring is useless.

The window counter is tiny, maybe it is the size of the window parry, does not last the whole time of the opponent's attack animation.

Thus, the ring becomes almost useless because it will work hopefully in 2 of 10 attempts, and in pvp, before wasting 8 chances to make good damage, for sure we'll be dead.

Thus, to use a weapon with lightning and lose the effect of the Leo Ring, makes the chances of giving good damage VERY best I think, unfortunately.

And, if you did really really want to, You could just use the Leo ring with the Lightning Avelyn, and have a 40% increase on the physical part of it.

Avelyn probably isn't the way to go on it. You want something like a spear, halberd, or lulzy nonsense like greatsword. Of course the rapiers are a good choice too. It might be best on spears since suddenly they trade pretty favorably if stagger isn't a big factor, and for spear builds it generally isn't (they either have a ton of poise or can fastroll/flip).

witha warpick you can hit over 1000 damage on a leo hit with an r2 or jumping attack, but the leo ring is a thing that requires a lot of experience to use consistently... maybe ring up a sparring partner on these forums to practice with, have each of you use unupgraded weapons and strong armor and have your partner r1 spam while you try different poke timings or something like that.

If you are good at using it, the ring is so powerful. Bit of a learning curve though.

If you want pratice basic counter, parry or back stab etc whenever you want just go to the Forest (without in the Forest Hunter Covenant) and fight with human Forest hunters there.

As I said in the poll , the Leo Ring works , really works , but it is very difficult to use.

Offline, against repetitive hollows is pretty hard to prove its function, combine this with a Pro human opponent varying attacks and with lag which is very common. We all know that to make a parry in the CPU , just wait for the right time and use, but to use the parry against another player , we all have to use BEFORE the right time to work because of the lag in the game.

That's why I say it is almost useless , as there are many elements that must be considered to have good damage , while other types of upgrades can give your weapon damage almost as good as the maximum of the Leo Ring , but a constant damage and secure.

SS Demon , I really did not know that the Leo Ring works with mixed type of damage . I thought if the weapon had any element that was not physical , the Leo Ring would have no effect . I'll do the tests , thanks.

I really want to wear this ring, so I'm doing all these tests and asking for your help. I just do not want to make one more build with Favor Ring + Havel or Hornet

Well that's why you should use it with a spear or sword which can thurst (and that mean it's best to go with a quaility or dex build), not a crossbow. It's easier, safer than parry or ripose, increase your damage about 60%, and guess what? You'll never, ever need 10 successfull counters to kill an opponent.

If you go with a quality or dex build, no other upgrades should do better damage than a normal 15+ weapon (except maybe crossbows), and i'm not even talking about using leo ring.

My initial idea is to use the Leo Ring with every kind of weapon you receive bonus with this ring. However, one of the safest damage I've seen is damage of a crossbow arrow that is fired at the speed of light. My character is Hunter and if it were possible, I would only use Bows and Crossbows, but it is impossible to win a fight only with that, then use the Rapier Ricard which is a weapon that is also very fast and takes advantage of the Leo Ring.

I do not particularly like Spear for providing a PVP fight with extremely boring and safe. Lift the shield and pierce even kill, it's boring.

I see, yes in your case the Leo ring seems not really effective and worth a ring slot due to the weak attack of Ricard's Rapier. If it's a spear/pike then two/three successfull counter attacks will leave even the strongest opponent with a tiny little bit of health, if he's not dead yet!

How about switch to something like the Balder side sword? It's two hand strong attack is a powerful thurst when combine with Leo ring can do insane damage.

The Composite bow in this build is almost aesthetic, being Hunter, I like to use a bow, but I understand that a bow is almost useless in PVP, it will serve more as a way to start the fight with shots from long distance, so the electric bow, because at long distance hardly someone will attack in a PVP, only Sorcerers, becomes Leo Ring useless. I have no pretense of counter attacking someone with a bow that is fast, but not that much.

This is the second time you show me the Balder Side Sword, then did a test and mathematically it gives damage very near the Winged Spear and has quick thrust attacks and uses a lot of DEX (A).

I quoted the Winged Spear as it is the spear that I would use if I chose to spear.

If you going to use the leo ring with anything other than a spear or a weapon with some reach - it helps to have a bit of poise. The key is being able to trade blows without getting caught in stun-lock. The leo build I have has 44 poise which is sufficient for my purposes.Technically u can obtain up to a 60ish% counter damage bonus (20% normal counter bonus + 40% leo bonus) so at the end of the day it can be one of the most powerful ring-based buffs. I have achieved a 800+ dmg with a BSS and almost 1000 dmg with crystal war pick (this weapon is no joke when paired with the leo).

Just keep dueling with it - soon u will hitting the sweet spot on ur opponents all the time. Also, a lot of people forget the leo works with katana thrust attacks so don't forget to try that weapon type.
