Attacks that can't be parried? Empty Attacks that can't be parried?

Post by ScottyDoesKnow Sun Nov 10, 2013 6:24 pm

Is there a list of these? Basically it came up where someone said the running r1 of the mura can't be parried. That doesn't seem right to me but I can't seem to find a list anywhere, or any video of that specific attack being parried.

So... is there a list anywhere?

The running R1 of the Mura cannot be parried.  Jumping attacks cannot be parried, though they can be partial parried.  Whips can't be parried, kick attacks for rappers and scimitars can be.  Some attacks are super hard to parry, like scythe running attacks, but it is still possible.

What about the 2H rolling R1 with a great hammer? I've heard its unparryable, though I seem to recall seeing it happen once (can't remember where unfortunately). At the very least, its parry timing (if it exists) is incredibly tight.

Possible, but the timing is beyond unreasonable.  I've done it once, ever, never been able to do it again.  In combat a person will never pull it off, but it is technically possible.

I'm not sure if the running attack of the halberd can be parried due to the visual glitch, I've never been parried using it nor have i ever successfully parried it.

I always wondered about the running R1 mura seeing as the user jumps. Pretty sure i got parried doing the Halberd running R1. Scythes are hard to parry because of the huge swing arc, most of the times they're launched from beside of behind you.

For the scythe and Mura they don't count as jumping attacks, the Halberd running attack can be parried though most would rather bs punish due to the timing.

How about moves like the giant blacksmith hammer R2? is that considered a jumping attack, also the titanite catchpole R2 replaces its jump attack so i'm assuming that it cant be parried.

If you are talking about the enemy, enemies are different.  You can parry their jumping attacks since mostly they count as animations rather than real jump attacks.  As well the R2 of the axe is an R2, not a jumping attack even though it features a jumping animation.

Of course though partials can be landed on anything, so you can still partial parry a jumping attack.

EDIT: Also it should be mentioned that some weapons do have their jumping attack exactly used as their R2, in which case sometimes they cannot be parried. If I recall correctly for instance the normal club R2 cannot be parried since it is literally just its jumping attack accessed via R2, while the Black Knight Axe jumping attack is a separate animation from its R2 attack.

I've been parried when doing the Catchpole R2.
But it's probably really hard, and you'll have to get lucky with the timing.

The running r1 of a mura can be parry since its not truly a jump attack, just cause it does a jumping animation that doesnt mean it is a jump attack.

The attacks u cant not parry are foward r2s aka jump attacks, 2h roll r1s of the great clubs. You can still partial parry any attack in the game.

There doesn't seem to be a lot of consensus. My understand was that pretty much all attacks other than jumping attacks can be parried. This only includes real jumping attacks (direction + r2), not attacks that just have a jump animation.

I had also heard that the 2h rolling r1 of the great hammers and the 2h r2 of the dragon king greataxe can't be parried.

I've heard recently that the 1h running attack of the murakumo can't be parried, and can't find any video or anecdotal evidence of someone parrying it (though obviously I can't assume that evidence exists for every attack of every weapon).

And now I see Tolvo is saying that both the great hammer rolling r1 can be parried, and the normal club r2 can't be (if he recalls correctly). I've never heard of either of these, but maybe all this stuff is too obscure for there to be an easy consensus.

You can definitely parry curved greatsword running R1s. They would be pretty op if you couldnt.

As I always say, I can totally understand not believing my parry of a Greathammer. I've done it once and have never under any circumstance been able to duplicate it, a part of me has always wondered if it was a fluke on some scale and maybe a graphical glitch.

I have done a great deal of testing in regards to parrying since it has always been my main form of killing of enemies in PvP. So I can say that mine were done through actual testing, the only two that I would say are up for debate are the club R2, since my memory on that one is foggy. And the Greathammer rolling attack, since I've never actually been able to duplicate it and I've never heard another person do it. Which leads me to believe I may have encountered some sort of glitch.

Reverse roll running r1 from a broken straight sword can only be parried on Wednesdays. Don't forget about that.

Orange Charred Ring kick, Crystal Ring Shield, Thorn Armor roll and kick, Magic, the Golem Axe r2, and that's all I can think of right now.

There a few others. And some that can be parried are damn near impossible. E.g the running R1 of the halberds are so *** that you might as well not even try.

As far as I know: Jumping attacks, Kicks, Whips 2H Rolling Attack [Great Hammers], Club/Reinforced Club Strong Attack and 2H Obisidian Greatsword Special Attack cannot be parried.

Out of all the mentioned, only "Kick" and "2H Rolling Great Hammers" are notable. The others are barely useful or no one would ever try to parry it.
