Put simply last night in about ten minutes, in one area I managed to demolish three npc plotlines and with them possibly lost a trophy, a titanite slab and a friend.
The area was Lost Izalith and the site of my first debacle was near the stairs to the fog gate. I was wending my merry way when who should appear but Quelaana who proceeded to chuck pyromancy at me. This is the only one of the three that I do not understand and was not due to either my ineptitude or rushing in like a fool. In my first playthrough I hadn't met her in the swamp but in this one I had and bought all her pyromancy and she had asked me to save her sister and mother from the Bed of Chaos, so WHY was she there? I had to kill her, so no Fire Tempest and no trophy I guess.
The second concerned Seigmeyer. I rushed into the room where he was like a fool and fell through the floor (I'd forgotten that bit). Luckily I was able to make my way over to him and talk and he offered to help and did his shouty bit and then just stood there. I got fed up and arrowed some of the monsters to death and he still did nothing, so I made my way down and promptly got an acid bath and died. Next visit no Seigmeyer, so no slab eventually.
The third and last concerns, you've guessed it, Solaire. I decided that if I did nothing else in this area I was going to open that b****y door. I offed the stray demon and went rushing down the stairs towards the door when who should pop up but Solaire who promptly attacked and killed me because I wasn't battle ready. So I'd lost a friend along with 190,000 odd souls, which I went back for and retrieved, although I homeward boned it before I met up with Solaire again. I've that pleasure still to come.
