same here, same question. tho i have friends at school who watch it and they say its fun... apparently the dialoug and personality interactions between ponies is the gist of the fans enjoyment...

It's quite entertaining. If you have a good sense of humor and are secure enough in your masculinity, then you would probably draw enjoyment from it. Sure, it's childish and cutesy and you're watching a show about pastel ponies running around and going through slightly predictable situations.
But that's not what draws viewers. At it's heart, people watch or play or read something not because of the amazing graphics, awesome fight scenes or unusual locals. They watch, or read, or play something because of the characters. No doubt you've seen something that was visually spectacular, but lacked in interesting dialoge, or the characters felt flat, or the actors (or voice actors) obviously weren't trying. Things like that can ruin entire series or games. Take it from a writer, it's difficult to actually make interesting characters and interesting situations that the watchers or readers can relate to.
This is what makes My Little Pony so popular. It's not the body people are usually paying attention to, it's the character behind the body. When you have good antagonists and protagonists, it draws people in; if they're really good they can even float a medium that would otherwise sink. People don't watch it because of ponies. People watch it because of content. It helps, too, that they have excellent animators and a nice, fluid style. The jokes are fresh, the animation is top notch, the writers like their jobs, the actors enjoy their work, and that right there is what makes the magic.
Would you like Darksouls if the combat sucked? No.
Would we like MLP if the characters were 2D? Heck no.
