So, me and my buddy are debating wether or not the black knights are charred silver knights, can someone confirm if they are or not?

Re: (Lore) Black Knights question.
Different armor styles and weapons, they were the knights who fought chaos demons, while it seems the silver knights fought dragons. It's possible they were Artorias' men, as the design of the BK Greatsword is similar to the GsoA, however they could also be the God of War's men, as he took part in the wars against the Demon's and had been to the Kiln.

Re: (Lore) Black Knights question.
They were Gwyn's best silver knights who went with him to the Kiln and were burnt to cinder when Gwyn linked with the flame. They were given different weaponry because while the silver knights were still armed for dragon fighting and guarding anor londo the Black Knights were armed to fight Demons of much larger size than themselves. Thats my take. Il just post this here to help - The knights followed Lord Gwyn when he departed to link the Fire
but they were burned to ashes in the newly kindled flame, wandering the
world as disembodied spirits ever after.

Ha! I knew it, they are Gwyn's silver knights, Gwyndolin's are a redesign of them!

Well, wait a minute. Wouldn't they need large weapons to use against the dragons as well? The demons ARE large, no doubt, but the dragons we see (Gaping, Seath, and Bridge Wyvern (sort of)) are all bigger/as big as the demons we see.
So, how come a normal sized sword is fine for a massive dragon, but they need different weapons to fight off demons?

Because they are all dead and in the lore they had the lightning spear to do most of their work.

First off, I had meant to quote you. Just noticed I quoted the wrong post.DoughGuy wrote:Because they are all dead and in the lore they had the lightning spear to do most of their work.
Secondly, you said earlier that the Silver Knights were armed for fighting dragons in addition to guarding Anor Londo. The only weapon I can think of that they use that would do well in that aspect is the bow, which now I am honestly surprised hasn't been replaced by smaller bows. Honestly, when would you need bows that big for guard duty unless you were EXPECTING giant monsters to attack the city?

Re: (Lore) Black Knights question.
I thikn they havent replaced the bow because of its effectiveness against even small targets. I mean look at when you're getting fired at by 2 of them in the narrow walkway, its a pretty good bow. There is also one knight inside the castle wielding a bow making it unlikely they are expecting a dragon attack. More likely they were just positioned wherever the bow coul dbe most effective. They may have switched their dragon hunting weapons for smaller ones because, unlike the bow, they are not effective at taking out smaller targets.

I suppose that whatever race the knights are (they obviously aren't normal humans), their ability to use the bow properly insinuates they could probably stand up to it better, meaning that smaller bows wouldn't be just as effective.
I'm probably just fighting the idea because it doesn't seem like the "machine gun" like weapon longbows actually were.

Re: (Lore) Black Knights question.
Thrusting weapons are perfect for fighting dragonoid creatures, that would include spears like what many of them would carry. As well swords can thrust, but are also useful for other forms of combat. This with the Dragonslayer bow means all of their weapons are great for fighting dragons. Now then, most of the Black Knights use weapons that slash or use brute strength to fight with. Now, think about this for a moment, are they stronger than Dragons? If not, why the hell would they try to match these creatures in might when they don't have a chance? The BK halberd is really the only weapon that would be great against dragons, for its thrusting, but it has other uses and is great for slaying beasts in general. Black Knights and Silver Knights use vastly different equipment that are better suited for different forms of combat.

Re: (Lore) Black Knights question.
Tolvo nailed it. Like Ornstein's spear.....you can't outpower them or break a scale so you gotta slip a smaller weapon between scales, in the eye, membranes in mouth or nose. You can't hack away or crush anything on them so stabbing is the way to go. It's not 100 percent that they were silver knights but that armor set indicates that Gwyn's knights split into two groups, one protected the city for Gwynevere and the others followed Gwyn. Whether they were burnt to black or made that way is questionable. Presumably, when you find equipment it's in the condition that it was last in and not new (Gold hemmed and Xanthous are still torn for example) so you could come across it as burnt. However, the armor set says they were turned to ashes meaning the armor of any knight who was there wouldn't be recoverable. Plus the heat that melted all that stone and or metal in the kiln would leave more than scorch marks on armor. The armor says the ones who were burnt became disembodied spirits which look more like the ones at the stairs before the kiln. The ones elsewhere in Lordran and the one you get the armor from are likely stragglers or suits that were possessed by those spirits. So.....the armor was likely made black to begin with.
