I'm brand new in this forum (Although I've read already a lot here, and spent hundreds of hours in DS Game). So hello to the community !

As I am a total japanese feudal period fan, it was clear from the beginning sticking to the Katana Swords with no exclusion. Trying and Testing with Scaling, Non Scaling elemental to get out the best of the far east weapons.

At the moment I have 10 Katanas (One of each Fire +10, Lightning +5 and Regulary +15 and Chaos Blade +5).

After trying a 40 Dex, 30 Faith, 40 End, 25 Vit build with scaling Iaito and Uchi +15. I was fascinated with buffing them with a 2.1 DMB and Canvas Talisman, Sunborn Ring and this wing head thing from Oolacile it has a decent Damage of around 770 per swing.

After calculating a bit, I noticed that the Nodachi (Washing Pole) has lower scaling BUT scaling in DEX and STR. So at 40STR and 40DEX, the combined Scaling would outdraw the ones of Uchi and Iaito. Considered with the buffs DMB 2.1 would be IMO a true slayer, and the Katana Set Up with the most damage possible. (Probably around 800 per Swing)

But I was a bit dissapointed on HOW STRONG the elemental Washing Pole (Especially the Fire +10) was compared to a regular +15 Uchi. And event if you are just a 15 STR and 16 DEX build, the Damage of the Fire WP outdraws the damage of a +15 Uchi unbuffed (Around 500 Damage). So it's realy only this one minute DMB buffed +15 Katanas where the Damage outdraws the Fire WP.

This thread is just for the ones who are also fans of Katanas, and want to inform themselves about those superb weapons.

What I've not tested yet are the whole divine / ocult stuff with 30 Faith. (I won't go over this, I'ts just for casting DMB and WOG if needed). Having three scaling slots (STR,DEX,FAI) could event outdraw the +15 DMB buff. Did someone testet it?

The ring and crown don't affect the strenglth of buffs.

And with katanas in general yes, lightning out damages regular katanas, if katanas are all you use, 1 regular for dmb and 1 lightning or fire for when it fades.

Oh, this was a misunderstanding then with the buffs. So crown/Ring only affects WOG, Lightning Spear etc. -> Thanks for the input:cheers:

But it seems you're right. All the testing will come down to this, having one Normal +15 Katana 4 the buff and one Elemental Katana +10 equipped. Nevertheless I'll going on with my collection of different Katanas. (Looks like in the shelf of Hanzo Hattori at Kill Bill Movie).

I play exclusively with the Chaos Blade and I can't imagine going back to something else. Initially I had a DEX/FAITH build, and I used it to buff the decked out Iato and WP. The damage output is awesome, but I didn't like having to rely on opponents letting me cast it and then not evading until the buff ran out. So I made a DEX/VIT build with pyro because I'm just more comfortable knowing the CB is going to consistently put out good damage and there's nothing anyone can do about it.

I have an occult washing pole. My stats are 50STR, 40DEX, 60FTH. Without being exact, the DMG 2h is in the 600s...

But I'd have to check to give you the exact number.

Nice thread and welcome to the forum, the washing pole is my favorite katana and I am also a fan of samurais, maybe we can spar a little sometime.Check out our FC thread at the pvp section or msg me whenever you like, I have every kind of washing pole upgraded to the fullest in every path scattered through different toons.AT 30/30 it is great but now I am making a 40/40 build which will up the damage even more.

Just want to cast my lot with the katana lovers. +15 Iaito is glorious.

Also, I would like to advocate for scythes. I love my katanas but for a long time I felt that I wasn't hitting hard enough and the scythes, both Great and Lifehunt, are good alternatives. They're a bit slower but the Great Scythe has good scaling and high damage. The Lifehunt is...well there's someone else on this forum that can do a better job advocating the Lifehunt Scythe.

Overwhelming to see, that the discussion is going on.

@ Rynn: Doesn't Scaling caps at 40 STR/DEX/FAI, so it seems that going over 40 is overkill in scaling. Or is scaling going beyond "40"?

For the buffs! I've calculated CWS vs. DMB at 30 (INT and FAI) with Sorcerers, Beatrice and Izalith Cat. and Canvas Talisman (Most Adjustment in this level). So with CWS I've a calculated addition of 277.2 (198x1.4) Damage and DMB for 361.2 DMG (Assuming we have Lv. 3 2.1 DMB open). And the blue shine on the weapon looks extremely groovey;-)

Well I love also WP and now trying a 40/40 build for max. Damage output. But I'm also in love with the smaller Katanas like Uchi and Iaito, cause they have a swiftly faster swing and Stamina depletion is swiftly lower. AND having one Katana on each side equipped, and have the main Katana 2H. The look of 2 Katana-Sword sheats are looking true Samurai like.

@Yesuurd: Well we can open some Kind of Samurai / Ninja Dojo FC thing to get the Katana Skills to the Max. Where are you from? Because time shifting can be a problem. I'm from Europe GMT +1 Region.

And what's your favourite kinde of Washing Pole Yessurd? Or how do you have most DPS with em, let's say on hollows and on livings?
