Challenges TOO Challenging Empty Challenges TOO Challenging

Post by callipygias Wed Apr 18, 2012 5:34 pm

I started a challenge this morning with my main character -- sl 381-- NG+infinity. I've done a few NG challenges, but figured NG+infinity is where the true difficulty is, so I decided to try a playthrough with my Wanderer character's starting weapon, a scimitar at +0.

It was incredibly fun through the Taurus Demon (funnest fight with him since my first time), but once I got to The Bell Gargoyles I decided to re-think the challenge. I only allowed item buffs, so my 2-handed hits were doing like 40 damage, and once there were two of them I could only dodge for so long. At infinity even the standard hollow guys were taking 12 R1 hits to kill, and I couldn't even 1-shot them with a riposte. In fact, they took a riposte, a backstab, AND an R1 attack to go down.

Any challenges you all have tried that proved too challenging?

Without upgrading? Because upgrading it would be a pretty easy thing to do.

Anyways if you want a real challenge: make a full melee character, you can use heal miracle, but nothing more. No hud. No BB glitch lol. It's not really that hard but it's fun to do. Also the screen looks prettier without hud.

I'm doing that right now. With Havel's Shield. Although I went through the majority of play with the Grass Crest on my back, 2 handing the Balder Shield.

I quit because of too many invaders, and crappy shield mechanics.

I'm actually having a lot of fun with invaders 2 handing Havel's. It's funny fighting people who rely on reposts with it.

I tried a shield run by muling two fuly upgraded bonewheel shields to a level 1 pyromancer. The spinning R2 attackk is surprisingly decent against enemies...as long as they aren't bosses.

There's a fine line between challenging and impossible due to the 4 Kings. Every other boss and area in the game can probably be beaten with the weakest method possible on the assumption you are able to continually dodge. 4 Kings however have a built in time limit and if you can't do enough DPS you will eventually get swarmed and no matter how good you are at doding you will get homing missile'd by multiple Kings and will run out of heals.

This is why "fists only" and "hilt" runs are pointless. You can fist only with Dragon body pretty easily but the hilt, even upgraded, would be near impossible with the Kings. I'd say the toughest challenge with the chance to actually do it would be broken short sword only run. Assuming you allowed rings you could still do decent damage with an elemental version in hyper mode. Allowing power within makes it even more possible.

Anything less than that you're just going to beat your head against the way.

Just a longsword, no shield, no bows, etc.

Also, I am used to using a greatsword, so switching to a longsword was a pretty big leap.

If it's your first challenge run then it will definitely be more difficult for you but it's totally doable. A longsword has the identical moveset as the Claymore with less damage and range. It still has plenty of damage in NG though, even if it's not elemental.

I used an sl 4 warrior in ENB's challenge series and took down S&O and 4 Kings with a plain +15 longsword with resins. I absolutely destroyed super smough in about 30 seconds flat.
