Forest PvP is !!FUN!!

I've been playing dark souls for two weeks now and I find PvP great fun when your the invader so I joined the forest people. It's good because there's not much to lose. Met all sorts of players and died lots of times, especially to guys that keep taunting me that I keep invading.

Not sure why people keep complaining about the forest but I can finally kill one phantom in a 2vs1 situation.

My best moment is when I invaded a low level character that could kill me with five back stabs. So I took mercy to the poor girl and killed her by punching her to death with my flame hand. I even allowed her to heal then punched her face in. It was pretty funny.

My worst moment is when I kept invading the same two guys several times in a row. They camp out in front of the cat's house. After three or four deaths to them, they sent me some insults. I was pissed at them so the next time I saw them, I sniped them with poison arrows. They didn't leave their spot. A second phantom came an I manage to kill his phantom but my partner died and the host killed me with wrath of god.

Anyways, most people that killed me bowed but some pointed down or shrugged. It's a great PvP training grounds. I even got 150k from a dark wraith the host killed.

Doing all this with a non-elemental balder straight sword for extra fun. I learned a lot from this.

I remember when I entered the forest cov for the first time, with a +9 claymore, I died a lot and almost didnt killed, but still I found it to be so fun!

Just got there myself, learning the ins and outs of PvP.

What I really like about it is you can be hollow and invade, no humanity required, and whats more, if you lose as a phantom, you don't lose anything.

Do forest hunters invade down or is it just up? I invaded a guy with a elite knight set + drake sword. I feel ashamed to be there just watching him die to a knight NPC on a one-on-one fight. I'll level to 45 to avoid them.

Any good dex weapons to use? I want to experiment on some equips. I got 16 str, 22 dex.

the best weapons are painting guardian sword and balder side sword.

Forest hunters invade down and up with no restrictions. Most hosts are between 100 and 200 I find so they can summing phantoms easier as that is level paired. If you love the forest check out the For the Glory of Alvina thread in the covenant section.

I don't know if its just me but I can't count how many times I've broken a controller PvPing in forest. Still really fun though, especially when you just completely wreck a group of 1v3ers or 1v2er. Victory tastes like good!

I too love being a forest hunter. I suck but its so much fun anyways.

Silver Knight weps are good as well.

I think the only reason I still pvp in the forest is that I lose nothing when I die. With farmers it just wouldnt be worth it otherwise.

Hi, my cat left because I had to kill Shiva. Long story, but tldr while I was in the cat covenant I accidentally stabbed the barbarian while somebody was invading me. So I had to kill Shiva to defend myself, and then the cat left. Can I get her to come back?

ohh so thats why she never disappeared from my games.

My only gripe is thus...very often people will take you on 2v1 as an invader....Which to be honest really isn't very fair, but still, I'm the invader so I have no reason to *****.

My other question is thus, I notice that I earn souls if I kill the target....I assume its the souls they were carrying, but when I'm not the one who deals the killing blow I still earn souls (sometimes massive amounts)

Whats more, I seem to earn souls if a fellow invader is killed by the host...

What's more whats more, I earn souls for killing white phantoms as well.

How do the souls work here? Are they divided? Does everybody earn an equal share? Does the host lose those souls or are they simply duplicated for us and can be retrieved like usual? When the host Kills me, does he earn a duplicate of my souls?

Odd. I don't remember getting any souls. Only from red phantoms killed by the host.

I have a question. If the summon message appears, can i swap out the cat ring and still be summoned?

Yep, once the message pops up switch out for whatever ring you want to use.

You get a number of souls eqal to half what the killed person needs to level up. If you are an invader it does not matter how they die or who kills them or what they are. host or phantom if they die while you;ve invaded them they you get half the souls they need to get to their next level.

I feel obligated to plug the Murakumo.

As to the souls. You get 10% of what they need to level up. I believe it may be 50% for other invaders, but I dunno 'bout that.

I cannot stress how important high damage weapons are. If you can't kill anything very quickly you will lose (unless you are very familiar with your weapon moveset and can dodge well, like Cloudyeki).

I'm getting very familiar with my +14 balder swag sword. I even manage a double KO with the host. Even if he did kill me, I killed him to so it's my win.

I can only kill phantoms stupid enough to try to go toe-to-toe with the BSS using a rapier in a frontal attack. Then the host stabs me.

Forest pvp is fun and it's great for honing your skills. Once you get good at taking on 2 or 3 people at once you'll be surprised at how well you do in 1 on 1 duels against skilled players.

If you really want to do well in the forest then there are a few things you need to go armed with for the best chance of victory.

- Forget the whole "honor" thing. There is little honor in forest pvp so trying to adhere to it will get you killed. Sure you may come across a few hosts that bow and such, but more often than not you're going to be facing gankers.

- Get your poise to ~55 so you can withstand at least one greatsword class weapon attack without getting stunlocked. Against multiple opponents you're likely to get hit so not getting stunlocked will increase your survival rate.

- You need to go in there with as much damage output as possible. You really need to have some sort of weapon buff on a +15 scaling weapon to be able to take out people quick. Have an elemental weapon as backup incase you get jumped right away or your buff runs out.

- Wear at least one piece of thorn armor. It can stun a dragon body player who is foolish enough not to wear a wolf ring, and most importantly if you get backstabbed while rolling/flipping and they take a single point of damage from your armor then it will negate the backstab damage.

- Learn to parry. Forest gankers are used to overpowering hapless invaders and will often spam attacks. Once you learn to parry you can punish the living sh*t out of them and often finish the fight right then and there.

- Don't be afraid to backstab an opponent. Backstabs are the equalizer against multiple opponents since it takes that player out of the fight for a few precious seconds and gives you temporary invulnerability. It's also the easiest way to stop a host who spams estus.

- DWGR is sort of a must to increase your ability to dodge. You can do without it, but it definitely helps as you can backpedal and flip away very quickly to keep some distance.

- Against multiple opponents most likely one will always try to get to your back for what they think is an easy backstab. Learn how to counter backstabs and turn them into an easy punishment for those that try. I take out so many people that think they're going to get behind me by turning the tables on them.

- Prepare to die a lot in the beginning and don't get frustrated. You'll lose a lot in the beginning but after you start to get the hang of it you'll be amazed at how much better you'll get after a while.
