I go a solution for you: Bow when they are standing still and ready to bow. Make sure you do it somewhat simultaneously. Also, dressing up as a Giant user with a mask will probably not invoke kindness from others, and they will probably just backstab you when they see you. They also may distatse you for the use of the Golden Boy's armour or even Havel, so remember that one. They are not exactly the most popular armours in PvP, which many have learned to distaste due to most of them being Backstabbers towards them (trust me, most of them do, and most of them are usually griefers of all types).
Try a class that is somewhat original. An armour mixture that invokes some odd choices and play may invoke some kindness. For example, the use of Havel Gautlets and Pants with another armour that makes you look badass, such as the dark armour, may not give you as much hate as just havel.
If you see an invader of sorts that has a heavy weapon, it will usually be for backstabs. I am a heavy weapon user, and I have also seen invaders use such heavy weapons. I don't like to use backstabs in PvP (unless I see them do it as well, or if they do something that I particularly despise, such as heal or run away from me), but many of the invaders that have heavy weapons also love to backstab at times... that and rapiers. I havn't seen much else in weapons used as such, but rapiers and heavy weapons are an excellent choice of seeing if they do like backstabs, as they are the most common.
Still, if you want to bow, just keep your distance and wait. If you really want to bow anyways, use proper bow, or better yet get a worm to do it. Sometimes, to make someone bow, I slam my sword on the ground in front of them, but not near them. Usually they will back off, and they may bow or not. If they stand and wait, and they do not bow, than don't bow either. If they do, do it too.
That's my advice. have fun. Don't take honour as joy, as it is a job of sorts. Of course beating them with it also feels good at times as well.
