Dragon Head & Body Stone
So I know you can't be wearing a helmet and armor when you use these, but do they affect your armor rating to compensate?

I'm only really just experimenting with it now. But it seems to me like the roar is the really worthwhile part. The potential of that increased damage is pretty great. Like you can make yourself the ultimate glass canon, if you pair it with some other stuff.

I don't see how a stun could make up for a complete lack of defense. I was considering making a dragon character but now I don't want to.

Have you see the riposte/damage benefits?
A well built dragon build can kill anyone in one hit.

Exactly. If you're wearing the the LDC ring, which I'm told increases the time the dragon does increased damage, with power within, which also benefits from the LDC ring, and a nonascended pyro hand, you're looking at not much health drain and an extremely potent attack. Doesn't matter if you can't take a hit when you're potentially dishing out that kind of damage. Just have to get good at dodging.

And LDCR also extends the weapon buffs, right?

So it's essentially a glass cannon build? Wonder what weapon types would work best with that...

The roar doesn't just stun. It increases damage, repels ranged attacks, breaks guards, and in some cases, launches the enemy backwards.
This also scales with dragon covenant rank.

Strong, buffable weapons. Preferably with long reach because being too close to the enemy might get you killed when you die in a few hits.

So a +15 Greatsword/Halberd/Spear?

Yeah, those are ok. And great club, large club, gargoyle halberd, pike, murakumo and washing pole are other examples of the weapons you could use. And of course there are some others as well.
All in all there are plenty of weapons to choose from.

My enthusiasm for this has returned, I think I'll try it once I'm done with my Dark Souls hiatus.
Game just made me so mad, I needed a break.

I think this could drive more than 1 person raving mad!

(The spear could be a tiny bit stronger by putting points into Fth rather than Str, but putting them in the latter will allow you to change weapons if you get bored of the spear.)
I don't think any very large weapons, like the Great Club or BKGA are the best to use with the Dragon roar because they swing quite slowly, so it'd be easy for an opponent to interrupt your attack. I played around with the roar for a while and I found that, while it's excellent for guard-breaking turtles, it doesn't act like WoG and interrupt enemies mid-swing. Instead, they'll finish their swing through your roar, and most likely stun-lock you in the process. The DSS, on the other hand, is fast and has ridiculous range. With the Leo Ring, PW, and roar... let's just say I wouldn't want to be on the other end of that spear!

Re: Dragon Head & Body Stone
At the moment I'm using it with a spear from behind a Havel's GS. It works pretty nicely because the spears can be so quick and have such nice range. It's also nice to be able to hide behind the HGS without any armor.

Every dragon form I've come across has died very quickly, and I'm not that great at PvP.

But doesn't power within require you to be at low health?

Re: Dragon Head & Body Stone
It doesn't require it, but depending what you're doing with it, it can be better at low health.
People going for the ultimate glass-cannon, RTSR + PW, need to have base Vit, so they can wear the Sanctus and heal HP at a reasonable rate vs PW's depletion.
But if you're at full health, over the course of the fight, 50 Vit with PW on is still better than 10 Vit with PW. You'll drain more HP/second, but you'll still have a vastly greater pool of HP, in case you get hit.
Also, I put that Vit on in case the user didn't want to use PW. It doesn't hurt to have options!

Re: Dragon Head & Body Stone
Can also do things like use PW with an unupgraded pyro hand. It drains health at a much slower rate and, I could be mistaken here, but think it does the same damage.

Hmmm, I like it. My main hangup is that I'm not sure if it would be that good of an idea for my first PvP build.

Re: Dragon Head & Body Stone
Yeah probably not. I'm on my 5th and I'm just getting around to trying it now. I guess it depends on how much you rely on dodging. If you dodge a lot already it might not be the worst idea ever.
