What's the highest base damage weapon for my build?

I just beat the 4 kings last night on my new faith/dex build. It got kinda hairy at the end and it made me wish I had a more powerful weapon than my Silver Knight Straight Sword (plus Sunlight Blade).

So, for my NG+ run, what's the most powerful base damage weapon I can get with 16 str and 40 dex?


Bonus question:

When it comes to base damage, does bonus from scaling come into play? I used my Silver Knight Straight Sword because it had a higher base than my Iaito +15 even though the Iaito had a higher overall damage due to the higher scaling. Should I have used the Iaito in this case?

Listen to Rant and check it out also you should try some of the katana's 420 base damage with the uchi and 410 with the Iato (iato is alot easier to use as far as move sets go)

Murakumo is great, although you would need to two hand it at that high strength, though I wouldn't want it any other way.

How about scaling, when does that come into play?

I still see that my Silver Knight Straight Sword +5 does more damage than my Iaito +15 at 30 dexterity. The only difference between the two weapons that I could see is that the Silver Sword has a higher base but lower scaling and the Iaito has a lower base, but higher scaling.

That leads me to believe that most enemies take damage from the base first and then the scaling bonus comes into play.

I have to disaagree with you. I think that the scaling gets added onto the base damage. What's the number on your stat screen of the silver sword and the Iato. Based on what you said the Silver knight sword should have a higher number.

The Iato scales high with dex so to get the most out of it you would want Dex to be 45-50.

You can use the great scythe with that stats.

you may be aware of this but you can see exactly how much extra dmg you get from scaling in the weapons information page. it will have a +insert number next to the base dmg. the reason the silver knight ss might have been doing better then the iato is weapons have different type of attacks(slash,strike,thrust) and depending on the enemies armor certain types of attacks can do more damage. with 16str and 30dex iaito does more dmg but not much more. silver knight ss however scales with str also while iaito doesnt. so if you have 30str and 30dex the skss and the iaito actually do the exact same dmg. also since skss scales with str it gets a bonus for 2handing it while the iaito doesnt receive a bonus.

I'm at work right now, but I'm pretty sure it's 350 for the Skss, and 355 for the Iaito.
