Story Time, True Moonlight Sword Empty Story Time, True Moonlight Sword

    Post by Ragnar0k Wed Feb 01, 2012 7:58 pm

The Moonlight Sword from the Kings Field games (from which the DS franchise has its roots) is missing from Dark Souls. I'm not talking about this scaled down Moonlight-greatsword nonsense. I'm talking about the Crystaline-translucent-blue-energy Broadsword that weighs nothing and has the fastest attack speed of any weapon in those games on top of being the strongest of them.

It's a sword that spans at least 4 games as their Ultimate Sword. A blade with it's own Lore wielded by Gwyn's ancestor Lloyd the Golden King. Held before that by the Sage Arthur, Lloyd's teacher. And before that by the old King, Lloyd's father. A weapon crafted from Moonlight and the synthesized powers of Guyra a godly dragon and Arch-Rival to Seath (as in Seath the Scaleless).

It was the ultimate slayer of evil used by the Old King to destroy the primal lord of Darkness. Shattered by Seath and reforged in the fires of Guyra's very soul. Transformed and strengthened with the voluntary sacrifice of the Old King. A Sword so mighty it slayed Seath and alerted the God of the heavens to the misdeeds of his wayward dragon children. A God who then dubbed Lloyd the Golden King and blessed his line.

Look Skyward Why is THAT sword not in this game.

It is copy/pasted, because after writing it I realized this forum was a better place for the information.

    And:

It is overpowered. Which was the point, you went through hell to get it. Of course that doesn't work too well when you throw in PvP buuuut... Coming into this game I expected the Moonlight to be something very similar to what the Greatsword of Artorias* is. Scales with everything, is supremely strong at very high levels.

*Note: The way Sif's version of the Greatsword glows in that fight is how the Moonlight is supposed to look. Golden hilt in the shape of a dragon's claws with ruby talons and a brilliant blue blade of brutal barely contained badass power.

If there was a weapon that strong, everyone would be using that sword.

For those interested, the Moonlight Sword (not GS) has been in every single Armored Core game as well, another of From Software's flagship series. The 15th game ACV was released in Japan last week, and yes, Moonlight. Although the Moonlight is an energy sword for building-size mechs, it follows the characteristic of being the strongest blade that glows blue (or purple, in a couple of games). However, it was also one of the heaviest and energy consuming weapons, and that was very significant in the series. So perhaps to balance things out, they made the Moonlight a GS now, to slow it down and make it heavy.

Nope. Just other From Software games. And they're just as good too.
