DSS- 2nd Longest spear and reach in the game, pretty good damage if you get your stat spread right, has long ranged attack
-Split damage, high stat investment required to be viable, heavy
For spears in general: Strengths- long reach, great in offhand (versatile usage). Weaknesses: Fairly average-to-poor damage, mainly straight attacks

The silver knight spear is really good imo.
I've used on my dex character and it does some really good damage.
It's pure physical.

Here is a chart of weapon ranges, notice how Spears dominate the greatest range. The greatest advantage of a spear is its ability to poke, but it is generally unable to do much else. The low skill cap of the spears means that a mediocre player can be a threat to a good player, but a good player with the weapon will be equivalent to the mediocre one; you can't do more than one-trick with this pony. I don't want to copy-paste what I already have in my guide, but it does contain a section on how to use spears. It's like no one actually reads my guide. It's an old chart, so a few things might be a bit off. However, it is correct for the most part.

Especially since the description says it's the longest. However it's totally okay it's not the longest because it has that epic running attack

What kind of build do you have? Different spears are better for different builds. The winged spear, for example, outdamages the SK spear at 40 dex. The Demon Spear isn't even that good at 40/40 due to split damage, I'd go for the Pike at 40/40 but the Partizan has a more versatile moveset. I wouldn't use a spear as a primary weapon though, they're a good backup to a longsword, greatsword, or katana. They can mix up your opponent and are good for when they 2h a weapon and charge you. Remember that mobility and not tanking is the best way to use a spear.

The spears and pole arms have had a massive down grade from DS, I was very underwelmed by the winged spear and halberd in DkS as they where probably two of the best PvE weapon types in DS. The winged spears 2h r2 with its little skip and follow through destroyed enemys. The halberd and other pole arms were all good PvP weapons when used by players other than myself.

Pole arms yes, spears no. The deal lightish damage, but their range+lag makes them far more difficult to punish than the ds counterparts.
The demons spears doesn't need to hit hard with its range, just add it to whatever build you have as a backup and play the range game.
